Stardew Valley [Official Site, GOG, Steam], the lovely and addictive 2D game from ConcernedApe has a big new patch out and here's what's new.

It now supports more languages: English, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Brazilian-Portuguese.

The cursor will now snap between menu buttons when using a gamepad, which can be disabled. Press the back button on a gamepad will skip events that are skippable.

It also fixes plenty of bugs, one of which was a Linux/Mac bug where the lighting shader didn't cover the whole screen.

See the full patch notes here.

Have you put many hours into it? While I adore it, it's another game I'm scared to load as I fear I would just get zero work done! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I really wish they'd hurry it up with the multiplayer update. I played the makeshift multiplayer mod with a buddy and it was insanely fun.. we played for like a solid 8 hours straight. It really kinda sucked the fun out of the single player experience for me.

I'm sure it's a lot of work to get MP up and running though, so no biggie I guess.

Well Stardew is made by a single person, so it taking time is a bit normal considering if he work on anything else it delays it.

Controller support, eh?

Oh well, maybe 1.3 will have interesting new content again. :D

Slightly disappointing considering it's bugfixes and localisation instead of new content.

The game is currently (mostly) managed by Chucklefish, Playism and Sickhead Games. Since Playism handled localisation and Sickhead Games handles porting to Playstation platforms, presumably Chucklefish is handling MP co-op, as they have already implemented that in Starbound.

Having said that, if the development process of Starbound (a game I bought in early access) is an indicator of anything, then we can expect the MP update to be somewhere before the end of this century.

Now here's an interesting post:

I’d rather not get new content… I don’t like games that keep getting changes months after release. When I buy a game I want something worth playing, finish it, and be done with it.

I actually like this. Rather than have sequels that are just clones of the originals you get a game supported with more content .
If that's not your cup of tea , you can always play vanilla and uninstall I guess.

Still , a lot of games nowadays due to complexity and ports to certain operating systems (whose mascot is an aquatic flightless bird) need bugfixes and patches. Along with said patches a dev might discover a mechanic might need tweaking or re-balancing , or an exploit removed. I don't think the post release changes are a bad thing.
But again to each his/her own.

Not all games are suitable for endless gameplay, but the ones that are, I want to play for ages. There is not much reason to provide content updates for these "15 hours and done" shooters, but Stardew Valley is a game with near endless replay potential. And in these cases I appreciate developers making updates and DLC for them.
