About the game
QuoteIn times of political turmoil and social unrest, the people are calling for visionary leaders, who will steer the fate of their country with foresight and ingenuity. Prove yourself once again as a feared dictator or peace-loving statesman on the island state of Tropico and shape the fate of your very own banana republic through four distinctive eras. Face new challenges on the international stage and always keep the needs of your people in mind.

For the first time in the series, manage extensive archipelagos, build bridges to connect your islands and use new means of transportation and infrastructure. Send your Tropicans on raids to steal the wonders of the world, including the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. Customize your palace at will and give election speeches from your balcony, to win the favor of your subjects.

You can see in the FAQ here that they are very clear about it too:
QuoteWhat platforms will Tropico 6 release on?
PC / Mac / Linux / PS4 / Xbox One

If you need further clarifiation, the official website announcement lists Linux very clearly too.

Features
  • Play on large archipelagos for the first time in the series. Manage multiple islands at the same time and adapt to various new challenges.
  • Send your agents on raids to foreign lands to steal world wonders and monuments, to add them to your collection.
  • Build huge bridges, construct tunnels and transport your tourists in taxis, buses and aerial cable cars. Tropico 6 offers completely new transportation and infrastructure possibilities.
  • Customize the look of your palace at will and choose from various extras.
  • Tropico 6 features a revised research system, focusing on the political aspects of being the world’s greatest dictator.
  • Election speeches are back! Address the people and make promises that you can’t possibly keep.
  • Experience Tropico like never before, for the first time on Unreal 4 Engine.

It's due for release next year, so while we have some time to wait it's fantastic to see Linux continue to be supported by Kalypso Media. This time around, Limbic Entertainment will be developing the game, who previously worked on a Might & Magic title.

It's actually a HoMM game, the title confusion comes from the Ubisoft manipulating with the title ;)

Limbic did both. They were one of several teams that worked on HoMM VI, then they made Might & Magic X: Legacy, then they made HoMM VII.

I hope it will be good.

Recall Tropico 5 had weird DLC like Cheese Factory.

The new features are bold. It looks like either it fixes some of the traffic issues we had in tropico, or it will make it a whole new game, taking another step away from what made the early tropico games great. I would love another tropico game supporting linux though.

I have every Tropico game available in my Steam collection & I keep meaning to play Tropico 5 but I keep getting waylaid by other games like Mad Max & Shadow of Mordor. Would I be missing a lot with only the base game of Tropico 5?

I played only the base game without DLCs, completed the campaign and it was really fun. DLCs are purely optional.

I finished the base game without DLCs and that was fun. Then I bought all the DLCs, started on the water campagin and stopped playing because I didn't find it as fun any more. I think the DLCs probably add to the game, but not enough if you have started to get bored with the base game.

I just added all the DLC so hopefully I haven't just ruined it for myself before actually playing it. :D
