Rocket League's huge 'Autumn Update' is now available

By -

Rocket League's [Steam] Autumn Update has officially landed and there's quite a lot that's changed this time.

Few games have managed to completely hook me in the way that Rocket League has, so it's fantastic to see them continue to push out new free content to keep expanding the game.

This latest update adds in a fair amount of new content, as well as some quality of life changes. I won't go over all of it, since there's tons of changes, but I will mention a few highlights.

For starters, there's the new seasonal map named 'Farmstead', which won't be around forever as far as I understand. An interesting idea, to give the game a little variety throughout the year. They've also put up the new standard layouts for 'Wasteland' and 'Starbase ARC'.

Other map related changes include a new 'Transparent Goalposts' option, which is enabled by default. This will help with some of the camera angles cutting off the action. This might be my favourite features, because it's so simple yet it's so incredibly useful.

They've also chucked in over 90 new free items to equip on your vehicles. They've also introduced a new customization item in the form of player banners.

They've also now added in LAN support to the PC version, so you can gather your friends together for your own tournaments!

There's a lot more too, check out the full changelog here.

Unfortunately the new arena is bugged:

Got this problem with Mesa 17.2 (R9 380) and people with propietary Nvidia drivers also reported it.

Got the same bug with Mesa 17.2.1
Apparently Mac users have the same issue!

My biggest issue is that the game crashes like crazy on openSUSE Tumbleweed lately, I can rarely finish a game without a crash and restart of the game! Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

No crashes so far in my system (and been playing many games in competitive and casual). I read lots of reports from Windows users about crashes. Maybe there is a link.

It is currently on sale. Should I buy rocket league game of the year edition, or the cheaper one without the DLCs?

*EDIT: I just bought the game of the year edition. I found it fun when I tried it out earlier.

All Rocket League DLC is basically the same. One or two car models and a couple of other visual extras. It doesn't add anything to the gameplay, but if you like some customisation you can have a look. It only add a few of the DLC though.

Heads up: the three DLCs included in GOTY are required for 100% achievements.

Good thing achievements are totally pointless.

Wow! What games support LAN these days (maybe more than I think, I don't play as widely as other people on this site, probably)?! That's pretty amazing! :D So with this game you can have actual LAN parties! :O
