Continuing our tradition and a day later than last year, the Linux 2017 GOTY Awards are now open for nominations.

Wait, it’s 2018 already, aren’t you a little late?

Well—no. We do things differently here, we like to give all developers a chance to be included. It’s only fair to give out awards based on 2017 once it’s actually over.

It’s a little different to the previous years! This time, to nominate a game we first need to have it in our database. This should hopefully prevent multiple different spellings of the same titles in a category (which took a while to clean last time). If it doesn’t exist, there’s links below the nomination box to add it, or to email us!

Nominations close on January 10th!

We will then take a day or so to ensure everything is going smoothly and then open it for voting! You do need a GamingOnLinux account to vote once that feature opens.

Head over to the Linux GOTY Awards now to get nominating!

To be clear: Don't submit them in the comments here. You are free to chat as usual in the comments though.

Ps. Please, stop submitting stuff from before 2017, unless they're going in the open source game or FOSS category.

LISA had a great soundtrack (I'm not sure if the criteria means the game has to have been released in the last year though)

Quoting: dvdI tried to submit a FOSS game, but it's license (Apache) is missing from the list.
Added Apache as a license option.

The categories and descriptions should all explain it, LISA does not count, it was released in 2014.

is the "best graphics" category meant for technical graphical achievement or art style? because if is for the later then maybe consider renaming the category and if not maybe make it more clear.

I have a few questions about the Most promising game in early access category.

Can the first early access version of the game have been released before 2017 for the game be nominated to the most promising early access game in 2017?

How is "Early access" defined? If the developers do not use the term "early access" but instead use "active development" and they have not relased a 1.0 version does that count as an "early access" game?

Example: Factorio (but imagine it was only available on GoG where it says "in development" and not on Steam where it says "early access")

I suggest increasing the visability of that note and displaying it on the main page prominently.

It is already noted on the main page and each category name/description.

All early acces/in-dev games are accepted. Will adjust the description to be clearer.

From 2017, I enjoyed Everspace, Sky Force Reloaded, CIV6 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap.
I would have the time and money to try: Hand of Fate 2, Full Throttle Remastered, Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth, Darkwood (just to see as I don't like horror style, I found enough horror in our world to seek for it in fiction), Immortal Redneck, Hitman...
In fact, so many that the final 2017 list would be challenging for you Liam! :))

I would love to see some 2017 game ports of Divinity: Original Sin 2, Middle-earth:Shadow of War, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, and the traditional TheWitcher3&DLC, Shadow Warrior 2, Skyrim, Fallout4 .. and to test: okami, endless space2, doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, one South Park rpg.

*in bold, not nominated games yet?

Regarding "Most anticipated game for 2018" I'm missing the following Games in the Database:
- Tropico 6
- Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War
- Surviving Mars
- Shoppe Keep 2

How about a Category like "Most awaited Game that made it NOT to Linux". There could be a "vapor ware award" or similar for the most promising and awaited feature/sw/game that did not arrive.

Afraid not, we don't want to put out a bunch of negativity.
