BATTLETECH [Official Site], the new strategy game from Harebrained Schemes and Paradox Interactive is looking good in the latest trailer.

As a reminder, the Linux version is being delayed. The official line right now that I've been told is "Linux to be added post-release" and that's all I've been getting. Harebrained Schemes has supported Linux reasonably well with previous games, so I hope they don't delay the Linux version for too long.

Anyway…here's the trailer:

There's actually a good amount of detail in there, not just a straight up turn-based strategy game. With you actually managing finances, travel and choosing jobs to take. Sounds like there's a good variety in the types of missions you can do as well.

There's also random events to deal with, like pilots getting into a fight and how you deal with each situation will have repercussions.

It seems like it's going to be good, let's hope the extra time they're taking for the Linux version will result it a good release.

I like the Battletech universe. This game is looking really good. I'm not buying until Linux, tho.

Last thing I've seen is Linux 2-3 months after release. Tweet from March 1st.

And what this all has to do with Linux?

It is not coming soon, it is "Coming Soon"™.

It was odd, when an advertisement for Battletech came up, to see YouTube promoting a game I might actually play.:O

If a game is delayed and it's still confirmed for Linux, it's still Linux gaming news. Debating the opposite is silly.

If it takes a little bit longer I am 100% ok with that to be able to play battletech again.

It is not like either Harebrained Schemes or Paradox Interactive have been hostile to Linux before, or more to the point, that Harebrained Schemes has failed to deliver a Linux release after the Windows version has shipped before. I know that at least Shadowrun Returns was released on Linux a few months after the Windows release.

Quoting: GuestWell it's nice to see that colours other than brown are being used. They've introduced grey!
I continue to lose interest in this game actually. It's a well worn path: GNU/Linux will be done after release, soon, maybe a little delay, well there's something stopping it, oh it's not worth it now. This isn't against these developers in particular, it's just that I've seen it so much that it's basically expected to happen now.

Still, Battletech news reminds me every time of what I have sitting on a cupboard shelf, and that's always a good thing.

It's Harebrained and Paradox! They will do it! Let's not forget we only have fingers to cross, while they must solve real world problems...

I've been looking forward to this game coming to Linux ever since the first time I saw it. MechWarrior Online is one of the games I miss from Windows.
