In a move that's both surprising and rather welcome, Epic Games has decided to release the assets from their FPS MOBA Paragon for Unreal Engine developers, since they're shutting it down.

This will include 20 AAA-quality characters, with their respective skins, animations, VFX and dialogue, along with over 1,500 environment components from Paragon. Here's where it's a bit insane, this all cost Epic Games around $12 million! It's pretty insane how much it costs to make AAA-like games now—eye watering.

It's absolutely a smart move though, it means more developers can re-use decent work in their games when perhaps they would have resorted to something much lower quality and in return it shows off Unreal Engine some more. It gives a whole new meaning to "asset flip", but hey, who cares if the end result plays good and looks good?

They can be found for free on the Unreal Engine Marketplace.

A SMART move would be to release Fortnite on Linux.

12 million? oO

No wonder that most Indie games look so bad. I don't think they can blow 12 million on art assets...

Can these be used in other game engines (*cough* Godot), or did Epic disallow that?

This is ideal for to develop a conceptual game... You know, the game in alpha stage that you show to the press and possible investors in the videogame conventions.

It's working almost perfectly. I'm working in it from 4.15. Now it's 4.19 already.

I laughed a little when I read this few days ago. It's exaggerated a little. I mean, in last year only I created only myself about 1/4 of what they are offering here of models etc. and I didn't earn 1/4 of 12 millions. I really love Epic, but it's more like a cool news title. Also, I don't like to use anything that is offered from the other people, or can be brought. It's always missing something and it's never how I want it to be. So, I love creating everything for my projects. Models, sound effects etc. Sound effects especially are never what I want and I love creating them.

No. It can't be used with other engines. But, just try UE4 and you will forgot everything about Godot etc in a few hours.

Fully featured, fully functional, nothing lost by using Linux? If so there's been quite the progress over the last year or so. Great!

Yes, in fact. I still didn't find anything that doesn't work.
I'm sure that exporting for Windows doesn't work, but it's not what you are asking. Also, not sure if building projects for Android and iOS works too. I still didn't try that. But, everything I needed works. Compiling and building projects for Linux works perfectly.

But yes. Working in 4.14 version was difficult. But that was about 2 years ago, if I remember correctly.

The main problem with UE4 is that the people can't make Linux build from Windows where most of them are developing projects. And also, if your project become too complex, most probably it will not work if you try to open in UE for Linux what you done in UE for Windows (or vice versa).
