Son of a Witch [Steam] is a rather good hack and slash title from Bigosaur that officially left Early Access last week and it's well worth a look.

A lot of others have mentioned similarities to another game called Castle Crashers, sadly that's not on Linux for me to compare with. Taking the game just as it is, has given me many hours of fun. It's bright, colourful and silly with a surprising amount of depth given the amount of equipment you can find, the different types of enemies including boss battles and so on.

Thankfully, the developer has been responding to some of the negative feedback to make improvements. Overall, it is a stellar rogue-lite experience, but now it's even better. Just today it received an update to add in an easier mode, which heals you at the start of each level, removes the death countdown and so on.

Some of it really made me laugh. Don't have the money to buy items from a shop? Steal them, drop a bomb and run or just beat up the person guarding the shop. There's also pets, like a Penguin that can freeze enemies—gotta love that.

It has single-player, local co-op as well as online co-op so there's plenty of choice to bring up to four others along for the ride.

You can grab Son of a Witch on Steam where it's 25% off for another day or so.
