Awesome news for those waiting on it, as GOG now have the Linux build of Forsaken Remastered from Nightdive Studios with porting help from Ryan "Icculus" Gordon.

As a reminder, here's some of the new stuff you can expect to find in it:
- Support for Widescreen and 4K monitors
- Super smooth interpolated movement for 144hz displays and beyond
- MSAA and SMAA anti aliasing
- Ambient Occlusion and Motion Blur effects
- Enhanced and improved particle effects
- OpenGL 3.2, DirectX 11 support
- New automap feature
- Unique levels and enemies featured in the N64 version
- Unlockable bonus levels not seen in the original release
- Remastered display HUD
I think it's seriously great that Nightdive continue revamping older games, especially when it's a title I had never played before. I certainly hope they continue working with Icculus to provide Linux ports.
It's actually built using the same engine as the updated releases of Turok 1 and 2, so it uses no code from the original game, which I thought was quite interesting. More on that here.
Grab it on GOG now if you wish.

Thanks to Icculus and Nightdive!

Respect to icculus for sure, but I just want to shout out to the Overload developers, who also just finished an amazing 6DoF game, in the spirit of Descent. Maybe because of the long early access that it had, but I have not heard as much excitement as I expected, for such a great game.

So once I get that worked out, I'll be sure to see if / how it works under Linux. There was an update to SteamVR earlier, so I'll see if I can try it out in the morning.

Quoting: GuestTempting to pick it up, though I have no nostalgia over this game so wouldn't know if it's worth itMe neither, but there's a source port of the original which you can try out for free. The binary download includes all the assets apart from the music, which... well, I'm just assuming it's all above board and legal, since the project seems to have been around for at least a decade. Anyway, having messed around with it for a couple of hours I have to say it's not really my kind of thing. I can see why it blew people away back in the day - being a child of the '80s, I totally get the garish colours and OTT sound effects - but it hasn't aged well.

Quoting: GuestI already have the Steam versions, but we should try that out and get some Linux gamers to play (whether GOG or Steam). Still haven't sat down and played Forsaken beyond seeing it starts up. Been working on Unepic.Quoting: DuncQuoting: GuestTempting to pick it up, though I have no nostalgia over this game so wouldn't know if it's worth itMe neither, but there's a source port of the original which you can try out for free. Thanks, I'll be sure to check it out
Would love to know though about steam/gog crossplay for this game, would even be willing to purchase the steam version of Forsaken with any of you guys willing to test it with me, and then I'll refund and buy the GOG version
Still waiting on Turok 2 for linux on GOG, don't have any nostalgia for that game either but also would like to know if that will have windows/linux and gog/steam crossplay multiplayer
That's what I really liked about Overload that came out recently, being able to play with my windows friends, on linux, with no client with a drm-free gog version, and just "play" online mp... feels great, really want the same thing for turok 2 and forsaken

Yeah sounds good to me :)
Feel free to hit me up a friend request on Steam

Edit: after actually looking abit closer on the storepage on GOG.com, the MP for this game requires GOG Galaxy so no online MP at all for linux users who own the GOG version :-\
That is too bad. It is not like GOG are hurrying up with Galaxy for Linux.
I have a question regarding this release:
"OpenGL 3.2, DirectX 11 support"
Does that mean that the Linux version lacks feature parity with the Windows version? Isn't OpenGL 4.x equivalent to DX11 and OpenGL 3.x equivalent to DX10?

Nah, for a game this old it probably only uses a small amount of the spec. On the otherhand DX 11 requirement means that it requires Windows 8+, right?

Actually, the system requirements mention DX10 and Windows 7: https://www.gog.com/game/forsaken

D3D11 was introduced with Win7, IIRC.
