DXVK 0.93 is out, helping out Dark Souls III, Overwatch and a new config option for shader compiling
Take a little Wine, sprinkle over some Vulkan and you get DXVK [GitHub]. Part of what makes Steam Play do its magic, it has another fresh release out today.
Nearly two weeks since the last release, with the latest adding in support for DXGI (Microsoft DirectX Graphics Infrastructure) 1.4. On top of that, there's also now a "dxvk.numCompilerThreads" config option which will set the number of threads used for "pipeline compilation". This will allow you to use more CPU threads to compile shaders, which may help certain games or CPUs with low core counts.
For bug fixes, here's what made it into the 0.93 release:
- Dark Souls III: Fixed performance regression on GPUs with small VRAM (see ValveSoftware/Proton#478)
- Overwatch: Fixed incorrect shadow rendering on Nvidia drivers.
- Quantum Break: Work around game bug causing artifacts on RADV 18.3.
- The Witness: Fixed incorrect use of Dual-Source blending (#724).
Personally, I find using Lutris the easiest way to play around with DXVK, especially for Overwatch. As for Steam Play, it's currently using DXVK 0.90 so the next time it's updated there should be a pretty big boost for a number of games.
As always, amazing work.
Unreal engine games feel nice
but that was tested on Windows ill run some Ubuntu test later hope tekken and soul calibur runs well

This is actually my point.
If it feels as native as this one
Quoting: scaineI have an Overwatch launcher in my quick bar now, thanks to Lutris. It feels native. So impressive.
let's be honest, most people won't wait for Feral.
Grab the Autumn sale discount at give it a go.
The port is announced for 2019.
Yes, I honestly feel sorry for Feral.
And considering Twitter posts by some of their devs,
they're quite worried about Steamplay/Proton. :/
Quoting: sublet's be honest, most people won't wait for Feral. As much as I value Feral's work, having to wait a year or so for a port when a bunch don't get cross-platform online play I completely understand why some won't wait. I hope Feral don't stop, as their work is fantastic but they will need to find a way to get ports out quicker. At least they seem to be announcing sooner now, so that's a good start.

I wonder why it is not a viable option to work with their long term partners (Total War series, Tomb Raider) ahead of release. Let's say when the engine feature level is frozen and implemented. So they can release (almost) day-1?
Is it that the big AAA-devs are afraid of sharing code and content early, with external partners?
I don't know.

I used Proton/WINE for a couple of games that I played long before I started using linux, for example world of Warcraft and Starcraft2. I consider myself a casual gamer and when I have the choice between proton/wine game or a supported port by Feral I choose Feral port always.
The games I played with wine/DXVK, there have been no games that didn't require some sort of tweaking before it worked properly.
With Feral ports I've never encountered any big issues. Pres play and your ready to go. That feral games like total war have no multiplayer with Windows is not a problem for me. The multiplayer in Total war feels for me like a niche option anyways.

I finished the game without too many issues using Proton, playing around with the settings you can avoid most of the artifacts and performance was decent on my 6600K/1060 6GB. That was a few versions back so it's probably even better now.

Feral gets their cut of Protonic sales after the port has been announced:

Because The developers want to ensure that games exceed projected sales before starting to discuss a platform outside of the normal console/windows

I've been running Warframe using an FAudio patched version of dxvk... WF needs 64 bit for the new content, and without FAudio it's a bit crashy.

So Feral is already getting money for SotTR played through Proton and not using Windows during the first two weeks, even when they release the final port in - let's say - April 2019?
And all that it takes is an official announcement?
I don't see why Square Enix would agree to such a contract, but well, sounds good for Feral. :)
If that is true, we should expect very early announcements from Feral, right?
