I really hope that Valves effort pays off and they succeed in the long term in getting substantially more users to Linux (and Steam). Although eventually there are "just" planning for streaming services with all their effort and Linux Desktop users are considered their testing crowd. I'm fine with both :)

I used to be sceptical about Steam Play and its impact on Linux gaming, but I now have to admit that it's a pretty nice way of getting Steam's older titles to work on our beloved platform. Let's be fair, a lot of those older games would have never gotten a Linux port anyway, so it's basically a case of getting the game on Linux vs not getting it.

I feel like Valve's primary objective is to get as many games as possible to work out-of-the-box under Linux, to make sure they have a backup plan in case Windows becomes a no-go zone for them. Maybe they're also thinking about reviving Steam consoles. This is good for us too since we're always more and more able to recommend Linux for gaming to the average customer.

From my point of view, we should still give priority to native ports. Which means that if we get to know that Feral or any publisher is making the port, it's wise to wait before buy and play it (and with the current games backlog we have, we have lot of thing to play while waiting :P).

There are actually more platinum ones as some people report issues with really outdated drivers or have distros that doesn't have file description limits increased to use esync.

Well, hopefully ProtonDB will apply some limits to what entries can do to a rating when they're using rather outdated specs.

Yes, but this applies the other way around too. I guess a lot people give a platinum rating if the game barely starts, but this is no indication that a complete play-through with all features (e.g. multiplayer) works without issues.

If I look at the things like exclusives in Epic Store, Discord, Ubisoft heading away from Steam and so on, I don't think that there will be a lot of AAA Titles on Steam....
So proton perhaps won't bring as (much) AAA Titles, because they don't appear on Steam :-(

Yes, Ofc. But the outdated driver thing boggles me every time. Proton page clearly says whats the minimum drivers required, yet some people still run much older drivers and mark the games "Broken".

Ofc not to mention there are some native games reported also, the ones that don't have linux/steamOS icon in steam but actually have native clients available.

On my RX580 + Mesa 18.3 (transform feedback included) and with the latest Proton beta (3.16-6 beta), Witcher 3 runs flawlessly.

The stuttering that was felt (while riding a horse) is totally gone, the experience is really smooth. Didn't notice any graphical glitches or major slowdowns...

I'm really impressed by the pace of developpment and the performances they are getting out of Proton!

Awesome job guys!

Will we see Witcher 3 in the next round of Whitelisted titles? :)

I am not aware that Epic had an interesting exclusive other than Fortnite itself, which is that current hype game without the store would probably collapse inside 5 mins.

Ubi - either I am missing something, or they still sell their titles on Steam, they just require a link to UPlay to work.

The only larger publishers I am aware of that consistently refuse to sell on Steam are EA and Blizz, and those have been doing so for a long time now.

Never played BC2 in it's prime. It's decent enough. Think I prefer the more open maps and slower gameplay of BF2 so far though(& 2142).

Than you should try BF4 instead: It's a logical continuation of the series and plays like a real successor.
