Just before the weekend appears, we have the brand new Proton 3.16-8 beta available for Valve's Steam Play. This release includes some mighty fine fixes and updates.

The major upgrade this time around, is bumping DXVK to the 1.0 release. DXVK 1.0 had quite a lot of improvements all around, check the changelog for that here if you're interested. The gist of it is that you should see even more games become compatible and there's some performance improvements too.

There's also a very handy fix for Unity games, where a lot of them had the mouse pull down towards the bottom-right of the screen which should hopefully no longer happen.

For those playing online games, a networking fix also made it into this release with Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet specifically mentioned but others should see improvements too.

Steamwork API support was also improved for both old and new games, with Battlerite mentioned directly.

Finally, they noted "fixes" (they weren't specific) for DX9 games on certain hardware which includes titles like Final Fantasy XI.

As always, find the full changelog here.

I actually use the 396.54 for my 1070TI
418.43

Is also has transform feedback which allows e.g. hairworks in The Witcher 3
I always wonder if we'll ever get support for the extra settings like that.

For example, PhysX in Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, or the Physx in Borderlands. Or the hair effects in Tomb Raider, etc.

I still need to get past that first boss in Witcher 1...

That´s true ... but in absolute numbers the User-count grewth. See what Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais said about it a few weeks ago:
Quote"The overall percentage still has a lot of ground to make up, but the number of Linux gamers on Steam continues to grow at a similar rate as those playing on Windows," Steam developer Pierre-Loup Griffais told Engadget. "It looks like there might actually be an increase trend in Linux gamers starting from October when we released the new Steam Play [Proton] beta, but it's too early to tell if it's had a real lasting impact.”

Additional we have actually an increase of chinese gamers (caused by the launch of Apex Legends). We see here a similar high impact like with PUBG from the chinese Gamers (traditonally highly tagged to Windwos) to the Linux Share:

With today's re-released update, I see Proton entries in my 'installed games' view in the Steam library.

I have to say I'm really impressed with the performance of Wine. After the first episode of hitman has been released for free i couldn't wait for the possible linux port so i tried it. While the shader compilation frustrated me for a while (it only ever occured in Hawke's Bay though, not on any of the legacy maps), it all in all runs quite well, just loads a little slower and on a bit lower quality than the feral port. That said, i hope it will appear on the Feral radar, so i can play it on full settings and i can buy the remaining episodes and DLCs, as Feral and IO are two of my favourite companies. (and i really like hitman, i mean, i even installed wine to play it :)
