Update 11/06: SteamPlay 4.2-7 is up, tiny update to fix FAudio.

Main article below:

Valve and CodeWeavers have put out another update to Steam Play, with Proton 4.2-6 now available in your Steam client and on GitHub.

Included in this release:

  • More fixes for the new Steam networking API. A Hat In Time's online multiplayer should be functional now.
  • DXVK 1.2.1 has been rebuilt with a modern compiler. This should increase performance especially for 32-bit games. (Note, if you build Proton yourself in Vagrant, you will want to make clean and vagrant provision to take advantage of the new compiler; or simply destroy and re-create the VM.)
  • Update FAudio to 19.06.
  • Fix for more games on non-English locales, like GRID.
  • Fix controller rumble in some games, including Team Sonic Racing.
  • Improve font rendering in SpellForce 3.

I actually tried out Into the Breach for the first time using Steam Play recently and wow—what a game! I expected great things from Subset Games and I have not been disappointed.

Note: For those interested in the native Linux version of Into the Breach, it seems the current hold-up is the need for another developer. Their job opening has one of the roles as porting to other platforms including Linux.

For those who have already tried it, how is this latest version working for you?

It's going too fast! I did not even have time to test versions 4.2-4 and 4.2-5 with the few Windows games (Virginia and Mirror's Edge, I have to install Remember me) I have (okay, I played native To the Moon last week-end)!

Nice! Especially with that recent Steam VR Beta Update 1.5.6, I'll have to check if it gives a performance increase in Beat Saber. Just a little bit more performance would be nice. That mixed reality thing is quite hungry for resources.

Ugh.. The last Proton update made Warframe unplayable for me, it's a slideshow now.. Can I somehow revert to the previous Proton version? I don't see it in Proton selection..

Game Properties -> General

Bottom you should see "Force the use of a specific Steam play compatibility tool". Check it, should show a dropdown.
The problem is that Steam currently overwrites all versions in a series with the latest. So you only get 3.16 and 4.2 and their newest.

I don't play Warframe, but there's this Proton fork by GloriousEggroll, with Warframe (and other games) fixes:
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom

The present Proton update breaks at least another game though: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2778

(and that's why I make backups for older Proton versions, and put them if necessary in the "compatibilitytools.d" folder.)

QuoteUpdate FAudio to 19.06.

oooh - may that fix the (very occasional) audio issue in Fallout 4? One way to find out... One very attractive way... :)

Hope Proton will be ready for Destiny 2 and/or Destiny 2 will ready for Proton.

Yup, Kinda pumped/hyped with 'all-new reborn' Bungie. Probably I have to break my 'no tux no bux' policy..
