The Lion King, Aladdin and The Jungle Book no longer available on Steam, some about to leave GOG too
Three classics are no longer available for sale on Steam, with nothing announced to say why. However, GOG at least have given a bit of warning that they're about to go.
Speaking on GOG, a staff member posted on their forum:
We'd like to inform you that Disney The Lion King and Disney Aladdin are being delisted from our catalog on July 9th, 2PM UTC, due to the publisher's request.
Everyone who owned the games prior to delisting will still be able to access them through their GOG Library.
Curiously, The Jungle Book was one also removed from Steam but GOG aren't mentioning that being removed. It's quite likely though it will be at some point soon as well.
On GOG, all three games come packaged for Linux with DOSBox enabling you to easily play them, so it's quite sad to see these classics just be taken away. Each of them on GOG also come with a "Commemorative 16-Bit Poster Art".
Want to pick them up before they're gone? Links below:
Hat tip to Mr. Doomguy.
I had some of them in my wishlist, but no intention to buy them right now, so once are gone I will refer back to the more obscure means of getting them.
Doesn't mean they won't be put back up, though. They removed Castle of Illusion in the past and now it's back in the store (apparently the licence has expired and then was renewed).
So that's why we need sellers like g2a...
g2a to the rescue! feck you disney lol...

No.
g2a to the rescue! feck you disney lol...In cases like this I have to agree.

I bought them from there as well, yesterday when I first read this article.
I would have bought them from a less shady store, but I don't know of any. And this is a big problem, when there are no better alternatives, of course people are gonna have to use the shady one.
I'd have bought from Steam. I can't, so I'd have bought from a reputable reseller. Didn't know of any good one, so I had to use dirty G2A.
I don't feel bad. They left me no option.
So ok, GoL does not advocate piracy, but I have to lay this out. Consider these two options:
1. Download the Sega or Amiga roms. They are much better quality than what you get to run in DOSBox. Or just grab a pirated copy of the DOS ones. The developer gets no money.
2. Buy from scumbags G2A. They get money they don't deserve. Dev still does not get the money.
I know we're talking about Disney here, so I guess who cares if they get more money, but what you have done is given money to some random scum peddler instead... why? What logic is there in that?
Please, for the love of all things, let G2A die.
Anyway... that stuff is very old and also used to be very popular especially on consoles. At Disney they know that on PC we have emulators right? Because to me that doesn't look like a big idea. It will definitely hurt them more than us.
In Ubuntu 19.04 they did not start from Steam.
Went to the game's local files to run ./dosbox.sh in a terminal
Missing libpng12.so.0
Tried a symbolic link to the newer version but it still it complained about the libpng version.
So I installed dosbox
Tried just the command from the games dosbox.sh script :
dosbox -conf ../dosbox_lionking.conf -conf ../dosbox_lionking_single.conf -noconsole -c exit
It worked great but on game exit the screen resolution stayed as the game's resolution and needed to run "Displays" to revert back.
Also in the script I commented out (not sure if it was the right thing) :
#export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=libs
This allowed Steam to launch the game with the new dosbox, but still has the exit to resolution problem.
Any ideas what I need to do get the the resolution to drop back to 1920x1080 ?
Thanks
