Three classics are no longer available for sale on Steam, with nothing announced to say why. However, GOG at least have given a bit of warning that they're about to go.

Speaking on GOG, a staff member posted on their forum:

We'd like to inform you that Disney The Lion King and Disney Aladdin are being delisted from our catalog on July 9th, 2PM UTC, due to the publisher's request.

Everyone who owned the games prior to delisting will still be able to access them through their GOG Library.

Curiously, The Jungle Book was one also removed from Steam but GOG aren't mentioning that being removed. It's quite likely though it will be at some point soon as well.

On GOG, all three games come packaged for Linux with DOSBox enabling you to easily play them, so it's quite sad to see these classics just be taken away. Each of them on GOG also come with a "Commemorative 16-Bit Poster Art".

Will Disney's new streaming service also offer games from their catalogue? Or is this only some stupid move from Disney (as usual)?

I had some of them in my wishlist, but no intention to buy them right now, so once are gone I will refer back to the more obscure means of getting them.

That's Disney for you... always taking the term 'copyright monopoly' to full extent.
HadBabits Jul 8, 2019
How lame :\ I figure they're either moving them to their own service, remastering them soon (best case), or they're making new games for those properties, since all of them will soon have live action remakes out. Hopefully this isn't just some 'brand integrity' nonsense.

Hopefully this means remasters are in the plans, not just the usual copyright mumbo jumbo. Doesn't concern me much as I have already bought them, I still hate it when a game just disappears from the store without warning.

Doesn't mean they won't be put back up, though. They removed Castle of Illusion in the past and now it's back in the store (apparently the licence has expired and then was renewed).

I have all 3 games, But they all have very bad controller support. It is way way better to just play them using a decent genesis emulator
Salvatos Jul 8, 2019
Can't you play all of those games at archive.org anyway?

Was going to say, I could play them on my Amiga or on the Genesis. Sometimes it really is great to have the old systems laying around.
