Dwarf Fortress, a single-player fantasy game that's quite a complex mix of genres has a big new release now available. It's been around a long time and it's so popular it's inspired the creation of other amazing games like RimWorld, Prison Architect, Minecraft and plenty more.
Yesterday, Bay 12 Games put out v0.47.01 with some pretty huge new features, plenty of which are spread out across the multiple game modes. For the fortress mode, you will now get petitions for guildhalls and temples when you have enough believers digging around. Slightly more concerning though, is that villains might target you and steal some artifacts. If you have a Sheriff, you will get reports on it and you will be able to interrogate people and perhaps get the name of their master eventually.
Dwarves also have more complex relationships, with the possibility of "multiple lovers" and they can get divorced or have children before they are married.
For the Adventure mode, there's all sorts new as well. A lot of new options when starting including background, religion, starting site selection, equipment including quality, mounts/pets and more including the option to make party members. You can easily claim a new mount if something happens, pack animals (including many mounts) can also carry items and most important of all, you can "pet animals in adventure mode"—hooray!
As a reminder, it's also eventually coming to itch.io and Steam with a bunch of enhancements. While it doesn't state Linux support for this special version, you can read more on that here in our previous article where Bay 12 Games explained what's going on.
For now, find the classic Dwarf Fortress free on the official site.
Quoting: speskStill the best game on Linux IMHO :)
Aye, Hey di lee High! Other than the perfection that is Stardew Valley, that is.
Not tested them yet myself, but if you're at the size of fort where managing labours is becoming laborious, and can't wait for DT to release an update, they may be of use to you.
