It's been quite some time since we last had an open discussion about what you've all been playing recently. Let's get things going again.
We've almost finished the second month of 2020, we've had tons of Linux games that have released this year already and a huge amount more on the way. Now with the rise of game streaming, Steam Play Proton and more options appearing constantly there's never a shortage of gaming to be had.
Personally, I've been getting back into the deck-builder Faeria (Humble/Steam).
With the big recent patch, it gave me a new reason to pick it up and I had honestly forgotten just how good the gameplay is. Building the board as you go really does spice up the usual turn-based tactics, as does the single-player content that's quite plentiful. Gamepad support that was recently added has also made it more accessible than ever. Crafting a good deck of cards is always the hard part but Faeria is fun to learn.
So, over to you: what have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?
The first is absolutely appealing, on the second one.. i can't say yet if i'll continue playing for much longer.
Just finished Ori And The Bĺind Forest (also via Proton) which was a challenging platformer with a compelling story, plays well with Steam Controller (as do most platformers).
GRIS via Proton was also a beautifully compelling puzzle/platformer art game, shame that on Proton the end scene doesn't play though.
Still struggling to complete Hollow Knight 60 hours in; superb game and loving the challenge but I'm just not very good at it...
On the basis of previous GOL recommendations:
Basingstoke is a challenging zombie survival crafting stealth roguelike cute Britishness mayhem of a game. Not quite the Souls-like experience from dying where there's a learning process, as your deaths are typically either plain dumb or just mundane, but still lots of fun to play in bursts.
Attack Of The Earthlings was a fun take on the alien invasion trope with a smattering of Borderlands/Portal humour in turn-based action. Would love to play more humour-laden games if anyone has recommendations.
I bought South Park: The Stick of Truth over the weekend, on sale. (For the price of a sandwich, as Ross Scott - Freeman's Mind, etc. - puts it. It's a good way of looking at it, I think. :) ) So far, I'm seeing Costume Quest with fart jokes. Sounds good to me.
And slightly OT, because it's about as far from Linux as it gets, but for some reason I found myself going back to Mirror's Edge, Rez HD, OutRun Online Arcade (offline these days, of course), and Space Giraffe on the XBox 360 yesterday afternoon. I hate to admit it because, well, Microsoft, but that's definitely my favourite console of all time. It just is.
I kinda wish for a steering wheel and pedals (my old set has long since been trashed), but it seems an excessive investment for just one game, so a gamepad must make do.Oh, I hear you. I mean, for me it would be F1, Project Cars and Dirt Rally. And I'd probably end up playing them more than I do now. So I'd get a lot of use out of them. But it's still a lot of money to sink into what is, when all's said and done, a toy.
Yup, it has to be one of the best games I've ever played and it runs just fine in Linux as long I don't torture myself with ultra high quality on 4K (runs fine on tweaked high settings with HD texture DLC). I've had to kill the game twice as it got stuck, but I guess it would have had the same bug also in Windows...

Been playing Dying Light recently. It had been a while since i tried it, and after i started it up, i noticed that the performance had gotten way way better. I am also loving this new story mode feature.
Out of interest, are you playing the native Linux version or forcing the Windows version to play using Proton?
None of these are Linux games, but my big Pile o' Shame won't get any smaller if I ignore all the other gifted or bought Windows games. :L

Totally loving how you're rewarded more for exploration in Everspace, I'm not happy unless I can see every interesting-looking pixel in a 3D game. Takes a while to adapt to the controls, but runs perfectly with Steam Controller, using a slightly modified layout to switch the stick and Left D-pad controls, it's better for RSI purposes.
Should also take the time to play Talos Principle and Portal 2 again for the Co-op because neither of them would have worked until we got a proper AMD graphics card.
Batman Arkham Asylum (Wine/Proton)
Batman Arkham City (Wine/Proton)

Quite interested in your playing "any game you own" via GeForce NOW streaming service (e.g. The non-Linux-friendly game sellers - Epic, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Bethsaida) running in an Android Virtual Machine (with Qemu) on Linux. Would this system also allow playing Steam games that have EAC (e.g. Rust) to work without problem (other than performance)? Also, I'd be interested in a Setup Tutorial for this: I don't suppose you know of one, which is already out there on the internet? I imagine this would allow certain troublesome Steam Windows-only games to work on Linux that do not currently work with Proton.

I’ve been playing shadow of the Tomb Raider! Fantastic game that gives me the vibe of first reboot game that Rise didn’t! Also, it’s just gorgeous!
Honestly I really enjoyed the environment and the setting of SoTR. Setting it up in pre-Colombian Latin-America was a very good choice. I couldn't say the same thing about the game storyline and pacing though. It felt awesome but short.
I am currently playing Greedfall
I finished Greedfall (on proton), it was really a great experience. Took me a bit more than 50 hours to complete though, so be ready to
I'll definitely have a second run, with another "class" and... "approach" to some quests :D
Any advice on finding active servers/times? After a 4-5 years break i recently installed it again, and found the servers dead by comparison. I'm quite excited for the new game too, but i kind of don't believe they make the new release anytime soon, due to the weird development model they are using, where even as they are making a free game and a for profit one they do not open their project up.
I don't know anything about their for-profit game. I have seen their updates for Urban Terror 5, but I've stopped expecting it anytime soon. They are currently doing alpha tests on it with community members.
There are active servers at all times of day. After starting it up, click on "Play Online" and then at the bottom left you can click on "Get New List". I sort by players so I can see which ones have the most people on them, but occasionally I sort by ping just so I'm not at a major disadvantage.
What do you mean? UrT is not for profit, but it is nonetheless close source, and the development (including code and assets) are kept tightly in control with the core devs (frozen sand). As for the servers, i've only found 1-2 active servers, both of which have horrible pings to me.
See more from me
