BE-A Walker from Tequilabyte Studio puts you in the pilot seat of a massive mechanized walker, as you battle through a hostile alien world. Out now with Linux support.
On the planet Eldorado, humanity seeks refuge from a dying Earth. The problem is, the air is toxic and the native inhabitants have very pointy spears and they're not going down without a fight. If you know your classic games, it might instantly remind you of the game Walker on the Amiga. It certainly did for me! It also pulls in some elements of the films Avatar for the setting and Return of the Jedi. Not too much though, it's clearly a unique game overall.

The developer jokingly calls it the "weirdest and most cruel walking simulator out there" and that's certainly one way to describe it. Quite apt really, it is a walking sim and quite a violent one too although not much more violent than the majority of games out there that focus on action and destruction. Although when you step on people and continue moving, it's a little graphic. The good news, for those of you who don't like the idea of trampling all over the natives, is that at some point you're able to switch sides—if you choose to do so.
BE-A Walker has a good challenge to it too. Walking isn't a simple method of holding down a button, you need to get a rhythm going as you switch between legs. Not only that, the same is true for your main weapon which fires from each side of the Walker into different lanes of enemies below you. So you need both rhythm and attention paid towards which side your enemies come from. Quite a clever idea, and certainly gives it a more unique challenge compared to other action-shooters.
Enemies might also jump on top of you, requiring you to shake your cockpit backwards and forwards which can really mess with that rhythm you worked so hard on.
Additionally, you also have Oxygen to worry about. Your supply is limited. There's multiple modes you can switch between on your Walker between a balance of speed and oxygen usage or use more oxygen to gain speed and there's another to slow down and conserve it. There's a lot of things you need to think about.
You can find BE-A Walker on Steam, and there's a demo you can try to see if you like it first.
