Taking inspiration from Left 4 Dead and Escape From Tarkov, blending together elements for casual and hardcore gaming crowds, 314 Arts have announced Projekt Z.
Developed in Unity, they've already confirmed their plan to fully support Linux with Projekt Z and even quite early on, it's looking pretty impressive from their first announcement dev-blog style video on it. Their aim, from what they tried to explain about it is to have a mix of story and tactical shooting along with hub building and people recruitment. While a small team, they're using some of the more advanced rendering bits in Unity to make it look rather modern and slick.

The tactical side of it definitely sounds interesting, from the minimal HUD to weapons based on magazines so if you reload with ammo left eventually you pull that previous magazine back out to reload with. Along with weapon jamming, stealth elements, leaning around corners, weapon recoil and so on.
Once there's more info out there on it, we will let you know. We shall be following along given the promise.

More seriously, they seem to want to make an ultra-realistic game, which is fine. Their choice of weapons so far looks great, I like weapons from the 40s-60s. But I'm willing to bet that randomly jamming weapons won't make it into the final game.

I'm one of the devs to clarify a few things! :)
In the video, we said that the Weapon Jam is random "for now" because we need a bit more time to add more features in this direction. But I'm here to tell you how it will work in the future.
We also teased the Player Hub a bit, which is very complex and I cannot talk about it right now but the Hub alone could be a game itself :) Inside the Hub, you can craft better ammo types, etc. so it depends on the ammo you are using how many jams you will get. The Player will have unlimited default ammo (This ammo is more prone to jam), the craftable ammo is limited by your "building materials" you can find that on the maps/missions. (You can build a lot of cool stuff with "building materials")

I feel the same about weapons that break and need to be repaired.
It's a mechanic I can't stand. Yes I get swords can rust and need to be sharpened but it can be horribly tedious to do it in game.
So story-driven, yes. Randomly breaking to make the game harder, no.

Nice reading that, keep up the great work, your game looks really promising. But I'm still willing to bet a pint that randomly jamming weapons won't make the final cut in the game! (Or that another mechanic will make it irrelevant, say, that non-jamming ammo will be so easy to get that it will be a non-issue)

I know that Synthetik: Legion Rising also has a Weapon Jam mechanic. In this rogue-like game with perma-death, it adds a bit of stress, to spice things up ;)
You might as well compare it to a "silenced", "staggered", or "blinded" mechanic from other game: not being able to shoot for a short time may keep you on your toes and look for alternatives (i.e. cover / hideout) in case things go wrong, instead of just plain run & gun. It depends on how the mechanic is implemented and how often it triggers
