Slimesphere, the first release from Matheus Reis is a streamlined turn-based strategy game about warring slimes, where each level feels like a puzzle.
The idea here is that you're given small levels, with limited turns to complete them along with pretty simple rules to follow. There's no randomization here either, it's deterministic mechanics makes sure that it's predictable so you can beat it by following logical tactics.
A short and sweet strategy game, with 12 levels included that might not seem like much but don't let the little included level count fool you, it becomes quite the challenge as you progress. It throws in new classes of slime, requiring you to work around them and choose your positioning carefully. For what's there, it's quite clever with it. I do wish it came with more though, as I absolute adore the style to it.
Reminds me a bit of the excellent Into the Breach in how each mission plays out. The odds are stacked against you, it requires some thinking and planning. Even the third level beat me a few times.
If the included content isn't enough for you, there's also a level editor so you can make and share your own. A nice touch, as the level editor is really easy to use and user content like that can really help a game. You can find the files in here:
~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/Slimesphere/custom
You can buy it on itch.io and Steam.
It's also another game made with the wonderful free and open source Godot Engine. Great to see more games released using it. Hopefully even more will over time due to its excellent cross-platform support for both games and the editor.
