The day no doubt many of our readers have been waiting for is here, as Valve worked with the community to create a brand new update to Left 4 Dead 2 named The Last Stand.
Made in partnership with over 30 members of the modding community, it's been a long time since Valve came back to Left 4 Dead 2 in any sizeable way which is why it's so exciting. What exactly does it include? A lot. Seriously, there's loads. Some highlights include: The Last Stand Campaign and over 20 survival maps, new melee weapons, new animations, new voice lines, Counter-Strike: Source weapons in all servers, new mutations and so much more.

If you want to see the full list of changes, Valve put up a list here with some of the details and Valve get it a slick dedicated page on the official L4D2 site.
Note: while I've seen plenty across the net call it a "DLC", and it is when you think about what DLC literally stand for, it actually comes in the form of a standard free patch for everyone to update their game with and not as a DLC item you need to download separately on Steam.
The player count is already spiking up dramatically compared to the usual amounts. Looking on SteamDB, it took all of 15 minutes to jump another 15,000+ players on top of around that amount already online. Considering it's one of Valve's most popular games, it's not exactly surprising. This new update might even keep those counts up for some time.
Play for free on Steam for a few days, with an 80% discount if you still somehow don't own it. Our livestreamer is also checking it out right now on Twitch - live until around 10 PM UTC.
Was going to have a bash on Arma tonight , Think L4D2 may pip it though.
Anyone else experiencing crashes in the finale of "The Last Stand"-Campaign?
We just played for four hours without crashes. Just one disconnect.

Only tried single player. Had some gameplay hickups, but no crashes.

Yesterday I was hosting a game and it crashed on me twice, but not on the finale. Once it was on the first stage and another in the second. I played it on a single player mode a couple hours before and it didn't crashed.
This is strange because it is generally a very stable game on my machine, and I generally only have problems with it while playing community maps that were made only for DirectX on Windows.

Yeah, i believe that it is something with the shaders too.
At least the stacktrace points towards this direction, so i'am wondering what GPU are you using?
I have a Radeon RX 5500 using Mesa 20.1.8 with LLVM-10.0.1

I also had 2 crashes while playing the new map. It showed a error message stating that the game could not find something on files. Already verified the local files and still had this issue
Anyone else experiencing crashes in the finale of "The Last Stand"-Campaign?No crashes. I ran matches last night with friends for over 4 hours various maps but this one we played a lot so that everyone could get the achievement.

Its probably not related to the other dude, but havent been able to launch the native version of L4D2. It always gives the error message 'failed to read 4096 bytes' and I have not been able to find any solution other than using the Proton version. I'm using an RX470 8Gb and using elementary OS 6 based on the latest Ubuntu LTS, and I've checked and it seems I am not missing any mesa or vulkan libs.
