Silk Roads: Caravan Kings is a merchant simulator set on the Medieval Silk Roads during the time of Marco Polo.

Developed by Priory Games and made in the excellent Godot Engine, in Silk Roads: Caravan Kings you make your way from Venice to China through any of 3 major real-life trade-routes and encounter a series of events with multiple choice solutions similar to the Oregon Trail.

It's a game all about balance, and dealing with the randomness that comes with a game all about travelling across the world. Watch your supplies carefully, deal with morale issues and attempt to maximise your revenue while exploring and improving your skills to help you trade. The developer mentioned there's over 100 different events to see and deal with, which results in a game that's easily repeatable and there's multiple endings too so no one game will be the same.

Feature Highlight:

  • Over 100 unique narrative events
  • Beautiful hand-drawn map
  • Historical trade routes
  • Over 30 cities
  • Cultural Relations System
  • Skill upgrades
  • Inventory & Trade management
  • 4 Trade goods
  • 4 Pieces of equipment

This is the debut launch for the solo developer Priory Games, developed over a period of only 6 months.

You can find Silk Roads: Caravan Kings on Steam.

Wow, in 6 months? Pretty impressive-looking for that time frame.

I've been playing it for a few hours today.
The game itself is great, but it's still a bit buggy. For instance, resting over the winter only works properly if you start it during December. If you start it during January or February, you're resting a whole year...
Some events also don't seem to have proper prerequisites set up, like playing the lute at a tavern, which triggers also if you don't even own a lute.

But yeah, the game has something for it. Great mood, and captivating gameplay. Despite it being a completely different genre, it reminds me of Crusader Kings, with the events telling the story.
I can definitely recommend this game, hoping that the developer irons out the few bugs.
