Omen Exitio: Plague appears to be a title we've never even mentioned here on GOL which is surprising as it looks great, it supports Linux and users enjoy it. Released back in 2018, Omen Exitio: Plague is a visual novel choice-based adventure set in H.P. Lovecraft's otherworldy universe, so you can expect all sorts of nasty creatures to appear.

Italian developer Tiny Bull Studios say it's styled very much like gamebooks of the '80s and '90s, and while it has Lovecraft themes the overall plot and characters are original and what happens is guided by your choices. You could say it's a choose your own adventure, although we don't want to get sued by Chooseco now do we.

Just recently, they announced a nice fresh update to the game which brings in some new content to play through. Here's some highlights:

  • Play ~1 hour of brand new content for free.
  • Live a new adventure in the Omen Exitio: Plague universe. Get back to Zanzibar to discover what happened before Jake Hungtington's arrival and how the plague started spreading.
  • Meet a brand new cast of characters, as well as some old acquaintances from the original game.
  • Immerse yourself in the narration thanks to 200+ brand new images, more detailed and unique than ever.
  • Read Eric's diary as it gets written: dive into his psyche, create a bond.
  • Unlock new story-driven achievements, one for each different ending.
  • New animated menus.

This is the second major update to the game, following Evolving Madness back in June that went over the whole game and polished it up, along with a much nicer save system.

As for what's next? They've confirmed a new "side adventure" is coming which will have one of the original characters in Omen Exitio: Plague as the protagonist. Taking what they learned from the original and this latest new adventure, they say they're going for a "deeper level of narrative complexity and structural integrity". Sounds great.

You can buy it on Humble Store and Steam, the latter of which has it on a 70% discount until October 23. At £2.15 currently, it could be a great way to spend your Halloween tucked up with a horror novel.

Oh, thanks for spotting this one!

I'm saving up all my courage* for another horror game (hopefully releasing tomorrow) but at 2,99€ this is too good an offer to pass. Almost feels bad to buy games so cheap. Not bad enough to pay the full retail price, but still...

* I find Tupperware works fine.
