Love your exploration and survival games? Little Martian is back with another huge demo upgrade not long after the release of a Linux build.
A game of exploration, resource gathering, crafting, base building and survival all blended together. You start off crash-landed on a previously explored planet, with a ship and robot pal both in ruins. Your ultimate goal is to acquire the resources need to repair your ship and escape. One of the challenges on the planet is the lack of oxygen, so you need to constantly refresh your supply.
The developer continues expanding the game towards an eventual proper release, with a free demo available with a ton of content. The 0.6.0 update is massive too bringing in new music, drones you can craft and fly around, new world generation so it's different each time, new UI for health / hunger and oxygen, lots of improvements to farming, new random structures on the world, a bunch of new items, mouse input handling improvements and loads more.
It's absolutely adorable, especially if like me you love retro styled pixel-art. Little Martian already feels like a game that knows exactly what it wants to provide - a thoroughly chilled-out experience and I can easily see it pulling in plenty of fans when it sees a wider release.
Little Martian actually gets a little complex with the building system, lots of different elements to work with to build up a little complex of your own. Quite a grind to it, just like pretty much any survival game. Not that grinding is necessarily a bad thing, it's all about if it keeps your attention or not and Little Martian sure does.
Really can't wait to see how they continue expanding it. Two hours went by seriously easily in the demo and plenty still to do before I get to go exploring with some drones.
Give the demo a try from the official site and follow it on Steam.
