Luna's Fishing Garden from Coldwild Games (Merchant of the Skies, Lazy Galaxy) is a slow, peaceful and quite meditative experience out now. Note: key provided by the developer.

After a wild storm, the protagonist Cassie wakes up in a strange land. As it turns out, this land is overseen by a strange and mysterious fox spirit named Luna. The garden belonging to Luna has been ruined and they don't seem initially too pleased to see you. However, Luna is quick to enlist your help and so you set off on a little journey to clean up all the islands, go fishing to help out another spirit and do plenty of farming too while you're at it.

As a game, Luna's Fishing Garden is thoroughly relaxing. You do pretty much whatever you want within the world, although your progress is gated by picking up quests and going through to unlock more of the game. How you go about doing them is your choice, and you build wherever you like. It fits nicely into the casual genre with a wonderfully zen-like atmosphere that I could honestly happily just spend hours and hours in.

Features:

  • Hone your fishing skills: catch more than 20 different types of fish, each with its own behavior and extra challenge to catch.
  • Create your own garden: plant beautiful trees on the islands, place floating objects on the water, and bring in new birds and animals!
  • Enjoy your stay: roam around in your boat, watch the seagulls fly, sit back and relax. This peaceful world welcomes everyone!

The point here is not to rush. It's something of a grinding game, although it can be quite easy, the repetition isn't too bad once you get into it. The fishing mini-game really gets me though. I decided to pick the challenging option (the relaxed is easy) and wow, it definitely isn't easy when set to that. Needing to keep a green bar behind a little fish icon wobbling up and down a meter is surprisingly difficult. The fish icon will bounce up and down quite quickly, sometimes frantically so and keeping up with proved difficult quite often. So there is a challenge if you want it, and if you don't that's fine too.

In Luna's Fishing Garden there's no way to lose. You either progress directly in the quests, or you do a little planting or fishing. It's really quite lovely.

You can buy Luna's Fishing Garden on Steam.

I loved the demo of this game I played during the Steam Game Festival back in February, and immediately put it on my wishlist. Good to know it is finally released.
It is a bit casual, but, if you are stressed out, and want something relaxing, Luna's Fishing Garden is a perfect candidate.
