ReplaySorcery is a pretty great bit of open source software, giving you a simple to use instant replay solution for capturing quick bits of whatever is on your screen.

A new release is out with version 0.6.0 which adds an experimental KMS service as a "much more secure way to handle hardware acceleration". The original SETUID method is there still but it's going to be removed. There's also a new "Command" controller that lets you run a command to save a video apparently useful for Wayland. There's also a nice fix to bring down CPU usage when using PulseAudio. It also upgrades to the latest FFmpeg version.

Here's how it looks on the basic default settings:

Game Featured: Splitgate, currently in Beta.

As you can tell, the quality is reasonable although not crystal clear on the default settings. Good enough for quick 30 second captures though to grab those fun moments? Absolutely. Nice to see a simple solution continue to advance and make capturing quick videos even better on Linux.

The developer mentioned the 1.0 release is coming soon.

You can find it on GitHub.

Seems like a missed opportunity to no support ring buffer mode, so you can save the last 30s when you manage to do something cool. I for one don't usually know when that will happen ahead of time ;)

I did not tested it myself, but if you read the description on github, it seems that it is exactly what you are asking for.

Quite literally what it's for. Do something cool, tap the hotkey, it saves it to a video file.
