Remember any classic games made with Macromedia Director? Well you're in luck, as the ScummVM project is adding in some early support for it.
For those unaware ScummVM is a free and open source application that allow you to run tons of classic graphical adventure and role-playing games, as long as you have the data files needed. This allows you to easily play them on modern systems, often with enhancements to make the experience a bit smoother.
Writing in an update post the team mentioned this work has been ongoing for five years now, with it passing through multiple developers over time doing different parts of the work. Years later they've announced support for Director 2-based titles such as Spaceship Warlock, currently they're saying Director 3-based games might work with L-ZONE specifically being mentioned. Work continued now on improving Director 3 support for games like Journeyman Project and advancing Director 4 support too with Meet MediaBand and Chop Suey as their testing targets for that.
They're also looking for help to expand their wiki on known Director-based titled.
Really amazing work by the ScummVM contributors. Game preservation is such an impressive and often unrewarding adventure but when you get things working it's very exciting. Gaming history deserves to be properly kept alive for generations to come.
