For the second time 1047 Games have announced a big load of cash coming their way for Splitgate, the very popular free to play first-person shooter with portals.

Back in July they announced they had raised $10 million and now they've announced today that $100 million has now been raised. The announcement was made in one of those text-images so here's what was said to make it easier:

"A message from CEO Ian Proulx, AKA CardinalSoldier:

I've read a lot of the tweets from the community (yes, I do read the tweets!), and I am happy to confirm that we are NOT selling our company to one of the big guys. Instead, I am thrilled to announce that we have solidified our future as an independent, community-first game studio. We have just closed a significant funding round of $100 MILLION! One comment on twitter was that your hope is that this announcement will be good for the team and good for the community, and that is exactly what this means.

This means we can hire A LOT more developers. Which in turn means:
We can implement better and more frequent updates to Splitgate.
We can add more features that as always, originate from community feedback.
We can fix bugs faster.
We can support much larger numbers of players.
We can come to more platforms.

EVERYTHING is now on the table, and the scope of what we can achieve just got 10x bigger!

Our small team as accomplished a lot with a little, and we are excited to show you what we can do with more firepower. The focus over the coming months will be on growing to become the next big AAA studio, while staying true to our roots as an indie team that prioritizes our community. We truly are just getting started and we can't wait to show you everything we have planned.

When Splitgate comes out of BETA and launches 1.0, it will be a truly historic launch beyond anything we previously could have dreamed of.

Together, let's take Splitgate to the next level.

They also announced that they're hiring more engineers, you can check out their vacancies here.

It's not surprising that they're seeing people or companies with lots of cash to burn jump at them, as it has been incredibly popular. However, at least on Steam though, it's already very clearly past the peak with online player numbers dropping pretty steadily over the last few weeks. Hopefully they will be able to keep up a decent enough playerbase.

I remember playing this years ago and I never expected it to even get an inch as popular or successful as it did. Crazy.

I hope they will find good UI/UX engineers…

Over the last couple weeks I have noticed fewer Steam players playing Splitgate. This makes me wonder if this might be somewhat related to this guide I found online:

How to win against controller players (General idea of it)

This Steam guide explains how to do better against players that are using controllers since, according to the author: ... everybody is complaining about controller players and their "aim assist".

I do not have much insight into this since I use keyboard and mouse almost exclusively.

100 million for a f2p game¿

Is it a micro-transaction hellscape game?

I was thinking something similar. When people invest $100 million they have to expect an ROI and on a F2P game I can't think of too many non toxic ways to achieve that.

Currently it has micro-transactions and a Battle Pass system for cosmetics. The actual gameplay is all free.

I'm really enjoying this game, I play it a lot. Pretty good news, hopefully they keep the linux version of the game updated as well.

I think it uses Vulkan in the Unreal Engine 4: https://boards.greenhouse.io/1047games/jobs/4106694004?t=ecbc1b904us
