The RetroArch team have released RetroArch 1.9.14, and recently they've been expanding what emulator cores are available on the Steam version with 26 now available. Cores are what RetroArch runs to do pretty much anything. They can be emulators, entire games and more.

For the Steam release, each core for emulation is available as a free DLC.

The new emulator cores on Steam now available are:

  • Caprice32 - Amstrad CPC 8bit home computer series
  • RACE - Neo Geo Pocket (NGP) and Neo Geo Pocket Color (NGPC)
  • gpSP - Game Boy Advance
  • Prosystem - Atari 7800
  • Beetle PSX - PlayStation
  • UAE - Commodore Amiga
  • VICE - Commodore's 8-bit computers
  • bsnes - Super Nintendo (SNES)

As for the RetroArch 1.9.14 update brings with it a fix with Vulkan crashing when capturing screenshot in emulating mailbox, plenty of improvements to Netplay and various miscellaneous improvements to various cores and a few UI improvements.

How do you use retroarch on Steam??

Edit: oh! It's actually an application to install within Steam itself! https://steamcommunity.com/app/1118310

Hehe, yeah, I remember being confused about that as well.

"Wtf? How is that useful? You can't download ROMs on Steam! So what point is it to use Steam with RetroArch?!"
(Of course, I mean ROMs of games that I all physically own myself )

See:
https://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/34270/

It allows purchase and download of ROMs through Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/10143/SEGA_Mega_Drive_and_Genesis_Classics/

This approach could be impossible for Retroarch, however, given doing so would require licensing of the games through Steam to be used with Retroarch cores. Then again, nothing is stopping anyone using the Megadrive ROMs from Steam on third-party emulators, so...
