Continuing to pull in impressive numbers of backers, Yacht Club Games have blasted through more stretch-goals on their crowdfunding campaign for Mina the Hollower - this includes a Linux port too.
Linux (and macOS) were set as goals of $800,000 and the campaign has now hit $865,000. As for why they're down as stretch-goals, the developer said "While these may seem like obvious inclusions, a lot of additional programming, testing, and support is needed to make them happen. With your generous backing, YCG will carry on the proud tradition of supporting as many platforms as we can!". Nice to see it being hit, clearly Yacht Club and their retro styled games have a lot of fans.

I don't much like additional platforms as stretch goals because if you use (only) that platform, backing before the goal is hit is a big risk and for most people already backing they don't particularly care. I mean, I'm happy when a platform I like is funded and included, but doesn't seem like the most effective stretch goal for crowdfunding.
On another note, the game looks pretty good. Not sure if it is a kind of gameplay that I'd enjoy but looks interesting at least.

Thanks for the heads up. Was interested in this because Shovel Knight was so damn good, but had zero interest in backing this if it wasn't going to get a Linux release. Will go ahead and back now.

If I remember correctly. KS allowed you to delete a pledge up and until the deadline. You can always cancel your pledge if it doesn't appear that the Linux stretch goal will be reached a day before the end of the campaign. That's not the nicest thing to do, but neither is putting platform support behind a stretch goal, so your moral mileage may vary.
Personally, making platform support a stretch goal typically puts me off the project entirely. I then adapt a "Ok, you Windows users can fund the thing and take all the risks. And if it releases and turns out to be on Linux and good enough, I can still buy it" stance.
