Steam Deck Verified jumps to over 240 titles

By -

Each day we're stepping ever close to the Steam Deck releasing and it seems Valve's testing is beginning to speed up, with now well over 200 titles now fully Steam Deck Verified. Around 6 days ago, it was only at 120.

If you include titles only tagged by Valve as "Playable", so they should still run but they will have certain issues from text that's too small to a single-player gaming needing online activation - there's 412 you can expect to see running out of the box.

What game are you hoping to see gets fixed up and Deck Verified ready for release? Do let us know in the comments.

Waiting for a windows user to say "But there's not enough games for SteamOS!"
MasterSleort Feb 10, 2022
I wonder whether Crosscode is going to be playable. It has a native build, but that one completely messes up the controls, which makes it unplayable with the native build.
The developers say that it is a problem with are JavaScript library they depend on and thus "are unable to fix it".
I hope the steam deck gains enough traction, so that the developers try and fix the issue.
This game seems such a great fit for this device.

I just check this list every time it comes up for Persona 5. Not a game I play, but a friend was complaining it wasn't verified.

Which I don't think people understand is that not verified doesn't mean it won't run. Just that valve hasn't confirmed it to be an out of the box one click run.

LETS GO!

Surprised Hitman 2 isn't on that list; hell Hitman 3, considering both run under Proton pretty well.
MasterSleort Feb 10, 2022
Quoting: GuestI'd love to see a verified for proton icon for the steam store alongside the other operating system icons.

Technically there already is, as games that are verified for proton are "whitelisted" and gets added a Steam icon (the one you would normally associate with Linux support).

If "runs on proton" was the only criteria, a lot of games would be on the list. But games get evaluated for the form factor and input too. If you fonts are too small, you need to manually pull up the on screen keyboard for something, your controller icon glyphs are wrong, etc you don't get a verified tick.

I think most Deck users will fall into the habit of at least checking games in the "Playable" category to see if they are ok with the stated reasons.

Linus from LTT recommended it to a viewer during his steamdeck teardown video, though I don't know if he tried it on SD. Hopefully it will be sorted out before long, it is sitting in my library waiting to be played on the deck. ;-)

H2 and H3 have the same fonts as the first Hitman, it's basically the same engine but updated, and they have zero problems* running on Linux via Proton, so I guess it's just a matter of time before they get a tick.

(*) the only notable difference between H and H2 for me was inability to use controller and mouse at the same time in H2. In Hitman I customarily used controller for movement and mouse for aiming when sniping or during shootouts, in H2 it wasn't possible, I had to use either controller or keyboard+mouse. Though I have no idea if it was a matter of native build vs proton or they just changed something in the game engine.

kinda of suprised to see doom 2016 and doom eternal are not listed seeing they run great, maybe the next update. those would be great games to take on the go.

It is quite obvious that the list is growing in sort of random manner. Devil May Cry 5 just got added in this batch, but it was already one of the games that was allowed be shown for preview. There is clearly lot more games that will get rated as verified or playable. They either are slowly processing it to dump it in big batches prior release or it just takes more time than expected and it will slowly trickle as time goes. I was kinda hoping that by the end of this week the list will be at ~1000 at least and something like 5000 on release date would be something that would look quite good.

The games appear random because it's a selection of games that the initial wave of steam deck users actually have and play I do believe. They apparently have many, many more titles that have been tested and are ready to go. I hope it's a big number like you say and I hope developers have put a little bit of effort in to make their games work.

just think about it for a moment:
why there are 60.000 pc games on steam?
because we have 60.000 niches.
ok, not really 60.000, but you get the point,
maybe you dont care about an game in particular, but this game may be an deal breaker for someone else.
people dont chose the game based on what run on their platform, they chose the platform based on what games run on it, and in the case of steam deck, its much better than switch but people can install windows on it...

borked on protonDB.
dont run, not even close, and persona5 isnt avaliable for pc, what we have is Persona 5 strikers
CyborgZeta Feb 10, 2022
Oh, I'm surprised to see Super Robot Wars 30. Figured a title like that would come later. Not complaining though.
eldaking Feb 10, 2022
Plenty I'm interested in on that list, though those are mostly unexciting games that already run well on Linux and on whatever old hardware you might have laying around in a box. I can play Stardew Valley and Dead Cells, impressive! xD

But I noticed Total Warhammer on that list, and that's exciting - a heavy AAA game, and some hope that "proper" strategy games will work with the Deck controls and screen size.

My dream would be Torchlight and Torchlight 2 updated with Steam Deck support. As of now, they don't even support controllers, so I'm not holding my breath.

What distro are you having problems with? I played through the entirety of CrossCode (including DLC) last year on Debian 10 and had zero issues. I even fired it up just now to confirm it was the native build and not Proton.

Oh, wait, do you mean it doesn't work with controllers? (Since I played with mouse and keyboard and don't own a controller to check.) If that's the case I hope it gets fixed, since this was once of the games I definitely was going to play on the Deck.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with either a PS3 or PS4 controller connected via Bluetooth. Every other game works perfect like this. Even when using Steam input it gets borked.
