I am really looking forward to all of this goodness coming to the desktop. I use Steam exclusively in big picture mode on my TV, and while it works fine, there is definitely place for improvements.

I have almost decided to get a Steam Deck, but that's quite a chunk of change to throw down.

The back-order is likely 6+ months at this stage........
Still not available outside of US/UK/CA

I'm really really happy with this device. I was in week 3 and a lot of the problems I heard of had already vanished before. The pace is just crazy.
Those 5 bucks to reserve one are certainly worth it. You may still decide to get them back any time, but I'd be surprised. This thing is getting better and better.

People who put their reservations in within the first hour have still got 4-5 months to wait till they get theirs. Then there's an additional eight months of people making reservations in the queue ahead of anyone that's only getting round to making their reservation today.
"6+ months" is really understating it.

But long back order indeed, since I'm stupid I only pre ordered it at Christmas 2021 (why didn't I pre order day 1 ? Beats me) and I'm after Q3. I'm betting on a one year wait between placing my order and getting it

I preordered like a week ago, after seeing all those articles. Stupid me. It's not like you're forced to buy it when your time comes...! "After Q3" now.

No harm in reserving a spot in line for the small fee, it'll be many months before yours would be available so plenty of time to set money aside bit by bit. If when your time comes you decide against it, you can get your deposit refunded. Go for it! 😎

Speaking of desktop mode, I saw Liam wrote it was pretty stripped down. Has anyone seen a list of default installed apps anywhere? I'm curious.

Definitely wouldn't be an impulse purchase.
