You can now go on A Short Hike wherever you want with the Steam Deck and perhaps bring along a whole lot of friends too. More about it: Hike, climb, and soar through the peaceful mountainside landscapes of Hawk Peak Provincial Park. Follow the marked trails or explore the backcountry as you make your way to the summit. Along the way, meet other hikers, discover hidden treasures, and take in the world around you.
It's a game that's now Verified for the Linux-powered Steam Deck handheld from Valve! Here's what the developer improved for Steam Deck:
- Fixed an issue where keyboard glyphs would show up on the start screen even when a controller was plugged in.
- Mouse movement alone no longer causes the game to switch from gamepad to keyboard controls.
- An in-game license text window is now used when a controller is plugged in.
As a sort-of April Fools joke but also a very real thing, there's also now "A Short Hike 99", a free multiplayer mod that allows 99 players to go hiking together. The developer will keep their server up for two weeks but they've also put out a way for anyone to host their own, so it can live on forever.
More on that can be seen here.
It's on my wishlist, but even my six year old has a Steam backlog now.
It is absolutely worth buying. It's one of the most relaxing and delightful games that I have ever played. It might not look like much, but the game has a bit more to offer than you would expect. Not to mention the low price tag for such a lovely game.
