ScummVM, the excellent open source software that bundles together multiple game engines has a new release coming and now it's time to help test.
With ScummVM version 2.6 they're adding support for a bunch more classics, to help keep them alive and working well on modern platforms. Here's some of what's been added and needs testing:
- Sanitarium
- Hades Challenge
- Marvel Comics Spider-Man: The Sinister Six
- The 11th Hour
- Clandestiny
- Tender Loving Care (CD-ROM Editions)
- Uncle Henry's Playhouse
- Wetlands
- Chewy: Esc from F5
Not only that, this release has seen a lot of changes across the whole project, so they said it's a good time to ensure your favourites are still working well. In particular the AGOS, SCI and SCUMM engine had "extensive" updates so they all need thorough testing too.
Some of the other changes coming in the 2.6 release include:
- The project license has been upgraded to GPLv3+.
- Now ScummVM requires C++11 for building.
- Removed support for VS2008, as it doesn't support C++11.
- Implemented enhanced filtering in the Search box. See "Understanding the search box" in the documentation for details.
- Implemented Icon view in GUI (GSoC task).
- Added support for the RetroWave OPL3 sound card.
- Added OpenDingux beta port.
- Removed Symbian port.
- Added the create_engine tool to aid when creating new engines.
- Fixed mouse capture in HiDPI mode.
- The GUI Options dialog now marks settings overridden via command lines in red.
- In GUI launcher it is now possible to group games by different categories.
- GUI launcher has new game icons grid look.
