After a short Beta period, Return to Monkey Island from Terrible Toybox and Devolver Digital now has a Native Linux port available. Sounds like the game is doing well, as said in the announcement: "Thanks to you, loyal customers, Return to Monkey Island is now the fastest-selling Monkey Island game EVER! At least, I think so. My sales data is a little "fuzzy." But let's go with it!".

"It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.

Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory."

Really great to see them deliver on it just as they said they would for those who appreciate the direct Linux versions.

Features:

  • Return to Point & Click Swashbuckling - Bringing classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system make pirating a breeze.
  • Embark on Archipelago Adventures - Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar place that finds itself under new management by leaders who have put the squeeze on old friends and new faces. Venture out into uncharted lands like the aptly named Terror Island and the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda to make allies and enemies alike.
  • Created by a Legendary Crew - The new chapter in the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway) and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).

You can buy it on Humble Store and Steam.

"for those who appreciate the direct Linux versions."
Of course I do!
This means full and proper support.
Also, I wonder if there is a single Gamer on Linux™ out there that does not.

I just replayed The Secret of Monkey Island. I had hoped to replay the whole series before this dropped, but time got away from me.

In any case. Bought.

I got part way through Curse and ran out of time, too

This game isn't on GOG. Kinda sucks since the prior games are. :-(

I had it already, worked perfectly fine on Proton.

I didn't play it yet though, same problems as the others, want to play the old versions before... But time is lacking.

This game shows how adventure games weren't a fad, I don't what happened or why, but you can become engrossed with The Return to Monkey Island as you would get with any other game that has a story to tell and there's no grinding. I don't know why it hasn't happened for so many years until this game 10/10 came out. Really makes you think.

Time for a replay and get all those achievements missed on the first run :D

Now waiting for a GOG (or another DRM-Free) release and it would be perfect!

I’m playing since the beta arrived on Linux. It’s a wonderful game, feels modern and nostalgic at the same time, without overdoing it like initially in Thimbleweed park. Humor and music really matches my taste and also the art style fits perfectly (I had needed may be one minute to get used to it).

Highly recommend!

Yeah same here. To my own surprise I’m now starting RTMI every time instead of Uncharted 4 :) (I bought both roughly at the same time)

I haven't played any of the Money Island games yet because of lack of time. Can the game be enjoyed without playing the previous games?

Teeeechnically yes, but you'd miss a lot of the references. I'd play Monkey Island 1 and 2 anyway, they are classic adventure games!

Almost purchasable…just give me that DRM-freeness.

To those that finished it already: Do you really find the Secret of Monkey Island this time? And / or does it explain the ending of the second part?

Whatever else happens, the music made me smile.

Finally had time to finish it. Just on easy mode, I think I'll replay the game in hard mode later.

Anyway, answers to the questions are bit on the spoiler territory.

Spoiler, click me
It kind of does explain the Lechucks Revenge ending. Return to Monkey Island ending however twists things bit more. But in a way, could say that secret is found.

I can imagine why people might not be completely satisfied with the ending.
