The Wine 8.1 development release is now available, starting off another year of new features landing usually bi-weekly for the Windows translation layer used in Proton.
Only two notable changes were highlighted for this release as they start the work again on pulling in more code, after freezing the features they added in for the Wine 8.0 release. The highlighted items for Wine 8.1 are:
- Windows version set to Windows 10 for new prefixes.
- Many code cleanups that were deferred during code freeze.
For bug fixes they noted 27 solved including issues with: Dungeons & Dragons Online, Multiple Blizzard games (Diablo III, World of Warcraft etc), Anno 1800, GOG Galaxy and issues to various miscellaneous parts of Wine.

The bug for blizzard games was fixed in the 7.x series already (https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/commit/6b8cbfe3fdc1ab8c6efd55dc51df7c3d738c4a47), they just closed the bug report now for it.
