KDE Gear is the name of the big bundle of software the KDE team create, and with the KDE Gear 23.04 release there's new apps and plenty of improvements to making the desktop experience better.

One of the newer apps is Tokodon, a desktop client for Mastodon that supports multiple accounts, which is super useful if you have multiple accounts on the same host. FYI you can follow GamingOnLinux on Mastodon.

Some of the improvements include the ability to see previous messages when replying and the ability to send polls to your followers, plus you can also configure a proxy for it before logging in now as well.

The Kdenlive video editor, my go-to app for editing all GamingOnLinux videos got support for nested timelines, this new feature allows you to group several clips together to treat them as a single sequence, allowing you then do all sorts of things to the clips together like effects and transitions. Sounds incredibly useful. Honestly this is probably the feature I am most excited about, it sounds like it might end up saving a lot of time when editing videos with lots of different clips together.

Lots of other improvements elsewhere to the likes of their YouTube Music app called AudioTube getting a redesign, NeoChat for Matrix also has an upgraded design, the screenshot tool Spectacle now allows you to annotate screenshots and record your screen on Wayland (and it also had a redesign), the Filelight app for monitoring disk space gained a useful list view and lots more.

More can be seen on the announcement page.

Did you know that you can import .kdenlive projects to another KDENLIVE project for a while already?

That's what I did so far when stuff becomes cluttered. Works just like in Blender.

Can even be worked with, like cut again 😄

Kdenlive just gets better with every update, its my main editor now has been for some time, it does get looked down on though by the Adobe pans, and of course the free version of Davinci Resolve is decent, but Kdenlive is shaping up well as a Pro tool now.

Interesting. This new solution sounds far cleaner though and after my own testing, I think it will work great to help keep my own video editing less cluttered and confusing.

Data management in video editing is an art in and of itself.
