It's here in Beta! A big upgrade for Valheim to let you change how you can play it, so here's a run over what's new and improved. This was teased recently and comes after a stable update that improved performance.
When you go to start a game, you now have access to World Modifiers where you can change various difficulty options. This includes no-cost building, passive enemies, amount of raids, death penalty, combat difficulty and more. So for people who want it much easier and close to a creative mode - you can now do it. Want it to be even more difficult? You can do that too.
This should make the game a whole lot more accessible for many different types of players, great to see. Hopefully it won't be too long before it's rolled out for everyone.
Non-spoiler patch notes (changelog):
New Content:
- New NPC: Hildir the merchant.
- New locations.
- World modifiers added.
- 2 new crafting extensions.
- New hair and beard styles.
- New items.
Misc:
- Hair and beards are now visible when equipping helmets.
- Various visual improvements.
- Quick-stack button added.
- Manual snapping for building added.
Valheim is available to buy on Humble Store or Steam. It has Native Linux support and is Steam Deck Verified.
But damn, I have so many games on the go right now it's better than Xmas.
Going to have to try this tonight for sure though.
P.S. Just looking at the screenshot of the new settings, I'd say that's better than any kind of "creative mode" because it's got more fine grained control. People like me who just want to wander around, explore and enjoy stuff can enable all of it (TBH I'm not even really into crafting, bare minimum to progress, sort of thing) while others might just want to tweak one unpleasant aspect of it.
This is quite likely to make anyone happy.

1) No Cost building does not work at all. You still need every petty piece of wood or stone, and it does consume it.
2) My gear still dropped on death, despite the slider setting.
3) I don't think the resource collection slider works on the full position, 3x pickups. I only ever seem to get 2
I can't be motivated to go look for my dropped stuff, I had wandered far from the spawning stones, enjoying traipsing around, minding my own business and bashing things that dare to attack me. The nerve... I'll just have to learn to like raw pork if they are going to be like that.
I'll just start over again next time I revisit this. I'm sure it won't be long now and this will be good for me with those settings.
I got killed by a bee hive, spewing toxic gas (or something greenish). I found a perfect shelter, with a roof and working door and everything, but it had a beehive outside at the back. It was a cool spot, kind of on an islet in a creek, I'd have marked that as my home. So I thought I'd burn the beehive with a torch. Oh no, of course you can't do that, that would be too sensible for it not to be a flame retardant bee hive. I stood there too long trying (it didn't take that long) rofl!
Mind you, I've been attacked by several things and had an easy time fighting them with that combat slider on the easiest, so there's that.
So I enjoyed this a bit tonight, but again, I think I'll wait until they fix these settings before I sink any more time into this. I'll stay on this beta train and check it again when it gets an update :-)
- Half the userbase wanted a hardcore experience, bashed the dev for making content "too easy".
- The other half of the userbase just wanted to have fun.
Now hopefully this feature will make everyone happy. After all, games in the same genre such as Ark Survival Evolved, Conan Exiles already had this from the very beginning.
Some of those settings don't actually work as advertised yet.

Easiest way to get rid of beehives is to shoot them full of arrows or throw a spear at it. With flame arrows you can set them on fire like you wanted. If you're lucky, you'll get your honey production started soon after that.
Of course in order to get those items, you need a workbench for start and then all the materials to make the items.
Beehives
Thanks, yes, I'm not there yet, I'm still at the wooden club stage in this reroll (haven't gotten back to it yet) as I was enjoying wandering around. I also didn't know about the honey, I just thought the purpose of the bee hive was to piss me off :-)
I like the lesser raid option though, never liked that feature.
See more from me
