The community maintained GE-Proton has two new releases available, so here's what's changed and improved with the latest versions. This is the version of Proton not supported by Valve, so it may have issues at times the official Proton does not. However, it also at times pulls in fixes a bit quicker and can do things sometimes that Valve cannot do. To sum up: use it if you need it for specific games, otherwise sticking with the official Proton is the best idea. More about Proton can be found in my Proton beginner's guide.
For GE-Proton 8-12 they've now disabled FSR by default. It's still there but you'll once again need to use Steam launch options like WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 to set it as they found using it actually limits in-game resolutions in some games.
There's also patches and fixes for these games:
- Farlight 84.
- Guilty Gear Xrd.
- Escape from Monkey Island.
- Memento Mori.
- Titanfall with northstar.
- DCS World steam edition.
- Assetto Corsa.
- Persona 5 Strikers.
- Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster.
- Tex Murphy: Overseer.
- Alternativa.
- The Big Secret of a Small Town.
Plus other back-end work:
- Import upstream proton fixes.
- Updated wine bleeding edge.
- Updated dxvk git.
- Updated vkd3d-proton git.
While GE-Proton 8-13 was a hotfix to clean up other issues:
- steam helper MR ValveSoftware#6555 re-added and updated. Allows -northstar to work with Titanfall 2 while not breaking other games that use bash script launchers. This also allows other launch options to be used alongside -northstar option, regardless of arguement ordering (ie -northstar -novid, or -novid -northstar). This MR also allows launch options to be used with EA games (link2ea commands).
- Updated Titanfall 2 protonfix to restore original Titanfall2.exe if NorthstarLauncher.exe symlink was previously used. (the -northstar option does not use/need NorthstarLauncher.exe, it works instead via wsock32 override).
