Another month down and we can see that the Linux desktop user share is continuing to rise and not just on the recent Steam Survey. While we have Linux hitting close to 2% and above macOS on the Steam Survey for the first time, it's nice to see it continuing to rise elsewhere too!
Just as a reminder the data for June on Statcounter showed Linux hitting above 3% for the first time at 3.07%. Well, this month it's smashed that record once again at 3.12%.
Across this year their stats show for Linux:
- January - 2.91%
- February - 2.94%
- March - 2.85%
- April - 2.83%
- May - 2.7%
- June - 3.07%
- July - 3.12%
It's worth noting that's with the Windows share also rising, and the macOS share dropping.
Technically, ChromeOS is also a Linux distribution (although people like to argue on that). Quite a different one compared with traditional distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE and others but it's still Linux and it's at 3.24% for July so together it's more like 6.36% desktop share for Linux overall.
See the details on Statcounter.

What percentage do we need before we Execute Order 66???........
The evil empire Microsoft is already at alert. But the brave Linux Jedi of The Light Side are ready to even sacrifice themselves for common good.

I guess we need to wait until Windows share goes under 66%.

I cannot tell you if the numbers are close to reality, but from what I've read Estonia has a strong public open source strategy.

Oops!
What I see explicitly mentioned is X-Road and Estonia's image of "E-Estonia". Of course, the German view on Estonia might be not as accurate as the Estonian view. :D
I live in Estonia and i don't know anything about this.I've got an OT question – are you from Estonia and what languages do you speak? I was recently reading about the differences in the demographics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

estonian, which is similar to finnish (Finno-Ugric)language in some ways. Latvian and lithuanian is completely different to our language, dont understand a word from those.
