We may see Counter-Strike 2 release next week

By -

Are you ready for the next generation competitive FPS from Valve? Well, next week you might be able to jump into Counter-Strike 2.

On X (Twitter), the official Counter-Strike account posted "What are you doing next Wednesday?" (September 27th), teasing that something is coming and it's not really hard to guess what that will be.

Likely either an open Beta of Counter-Strike 2 for anyone to jump in, or a proper release if they think it's ready enough. Hopefully Valve will also properly put up the Linux version too!

Valve said originally that CS2 would release in the Summer, but they've only done a Limited Test gradually inviting more players in so far. At release CS2 will be a free upgrade and replacement for Global Offensive, which is over 10 years old at this point so no doubt many are keen to see all the improvements.

Recently Valve also announced CS Rating — a precise display of your skill in Counter-Strike 2:

Could someone put up a screen shot of that https://twitter.com/CounterStrike/status/1704541038633959492 tweet? It seems without an account you can't even read messages no more in that god awful "X", and Nitter seems to be blocked. How nice? In this day and age. Nice freedom Musk

Sure, added. Will try to keep that in mind for future articles as I can imagine that being annoying.

So far no trace of Linux binaries. I think it will be a while before you can play on Linux and MacOS on VAC-protected systems. And let's face it, that's the most fun. :)

It doesn't show the replies any more, but seeing the "base" message still works for me?

I deleted my Twitter under previous ownership and didn't plan to return. Not being able to search for specific tweets or view comments was getting tiresome so I created a "burner" account just to view stuff. Still not using it regularly but it is a little less painful when I do need to use it.

Finally a non toxic community without cheaters! Oh wait…

Is there actually a problem with VAC and Proton? I thought Valve pretty much fixed all issues by 2021 with that. I know EAC and other abominable (invasive, driver level) things need specific attention, but the way the VAC system works shouldn't be a problem. It's just using normal application level functionality to check for cheats.

Wrong?

There might be quota so it doesn't even show tweets "x's" anymore when used up?

Time to dust off the old salt shaker!

On an other note, any GoLers doing the occasional weekend MM?

I don't see anything next-gen worthy on the video, but that might be just me
