Love mecha combat? Gearbits is a new indie release on Steam from Quackpond Games, following on from their early builds on itch.io. The developer mentioned that it was in development for two years, started as they didn't find the exact type of mecha combat game they wanted to play - so they made it themselves.

You go through 20 missions taking down enemies, giving you a chance to unlock 10 different mech to run and fly around in with each machine having their own strengths and weaknesses. There's over 30 weapons to equip, so a little something for every type of pilot from missile launchers to massive beam cannons. The Steam release also just recently got a free update to add in a wave-based survival mode.

Game looks nice, price is fair. Releasing it only on Steam is a no go for me though.

From a morale point of view I also think it's kinda rude to release only the demo on itch but not the full game.

Unless the game got fixed since Samsai streamed the Linux release a week ago, prepare for some jank. Models glitching out etc. You can find the VOD here if you want to see for yourself.

From the wave mode patch notes 2 days ago:

I also wanted to get yesterdays patch out as soon as possible, because it contained a ton of bug fixes unrelated to the wave mode. Now that the game has released, a lot of new people have played it and in doing so, they’ve discovered a lot of bugs.

[...]

The game is made by one person and tested by a few volunteers, so I appreciate the leniency you’ve shown me with accepting the bugs. Even so, I am very disappointed to have allowed them through.

Luckily, patching builds on Steam is very easy and I’ve been able to patch these out. Still, I dislike the mentality of releasing an unfinished game and then fixing it later.
I don't know if everything Samsai encountered has been fixed, but if any bugs remain I think there's a good chance they'd be fixed if reported.
