Not exactly a surprise but still great to see for Steam Deck fans for the ongoing support from Valve, as the Steam Deck is now firmly the global top seller on Steam once again.
As I reported on previously, until around the end of September 2023, the Steam Deck was consistently in the top 10 on Steam for revenue since the release back in February 2022. Revenue being the key word here, because Valve's lists are based on revenue as they don't give out units sold publicly. Then it dropped globally down to 11th in the week for September 26, 2023 - October 3, 2023 and hovered around 11th - 15th place.
Now that Valve have discounted the LCD models and released the Steam Deck OLED though, this has caused a nice spike in sales for Valve with the Steam Deck jumping up to 4th place for the week November 7, 2023 - November 14, 2023 and now the global top seller once again as of the week for November 14, 2023 - November 21, 2023 and it's still the top seller for the last week as well so it's firmly back.
Valve will of course be happy with this, as they plan to continue supporting all models, and they clearly have plans for a Steam Deck 2 once the hardware becomes available that's a big enough of a performance boost. We don't know how many Steam Decks have been sold but it is now in the "multiple millions" number.
When you look at Komodo who sell the Steam Deck across Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong they're currently listing the Steam Deck OLED models as out of stock right now too - so clearly there's healthy demand there as well.
Depending on availability, you may still be able to pick up a Steam Deck LCD model in 64GB or 512GB until they run out of stock as those models have been discontinued. Or you can go for the 256GB LCD model which is now cheaper, or just grab the excellent Steam Deck OLED in either 512GB or 1TB.

.My only complaints are the feeling of the button's, it feels like they are stuck in mid travel, and the crackling sound after sleep mode.
Biggest downside is the guilt of buying a minor upgrade. I need sell/give away my old Steamdeck so it's not gathering dust.

Their construction was already fantastic, but the OLED in your hands feels like there are sufficient quality of life improvements that Valve is honing their craft delivering an amazing product.
[* Better Joysticks, * Thinner Black Screen Border, 90 refresh rate v 60,] The Trackpads are easier to type on, more precise I guess. Obviously the torx screws are a significant upgrade and the improved thermals, battery, 1nm smaller tech, Triggers feel great, and other stuff.
I've officially started to have "Deck Parties" -- Did a 6 Player 6 Deck party last weekend playing Among Us, I'm looking for more living room Deck style games. I am excited at the prospect of having 16 player gaming nights in the living room again like the Y2K Halo days when you had 4 Xboxes, 4 TVs playing Halo with 12-16 people.
Edit: Can you imagine how much money is sitting on the table -- the Network Effect and multiplication factor on a 12-16 player game is nothing to squeak at -- my prediction -- somebody is going to do the math, get first to the market, blow up on PC-Linux Handheld Ggaming, and then a bunch of big name copy cats are going to show up in envy.

Edit 2: I'm also looking for a good racer, LAN PvP -- unfortunately Garfield Kart and Super Indie Kart are not LAN AFAIR :(

The screen is also noticeably more orange-tinted (only in Game Mode?) which I was able to fix by adjusting the color temperature.

Plus, it is just such a damn good product.
It's not often these days you buy something and feel like you got a particularly great value for money in return. Somehow despite the price tag of the Deck, and even the cost of importing it to Australia, it has felt like 'a bargain' for the amount of use and joy I've gotten out of it.
Part of that just comes down to the degree of thought and effort Valve have put into the design and the quality of the build. They've clearly gotten very good at building hardware and that's encouraging for their future as a company.
The value all of this adds for a Steam user is incredible and really sets Steam apart from any competition. Meanwhile, we're all reaping the benefits of the improved gaming experience on Linux, growing marketshare, and 'the best handheld gaming PC' is a Linux PC with Arch with an amazing UX! What more could we want?
