Well that's quite an upgrade Baldur's Gate 3 just got, and one of my absolute favourite games of this year. Might be time to jump back in again!

The main headline features are all great like the new Epilogue, Honour Mode and Custom mode, improved inventory access and more but — there's one other little feature that they didn't seem to talk about, that plenty have been discovering to great surprise. I am of course talking about willy physics. Yes, all those people upset at release that there wasn't any wobbly bits can now rejoice. I don't think you really need to see it but video proof (NSFW, obviously). Glorious.

The main highlights:

  • Epilogue: An entirely new section at the end of the game that aims to provide a well-deserved sense of closure with your allies.
  • Two new play modes: Honour Mode and Custom Mode.
  • Many performance improvements, particularly in Act III.
  • Players playing on machines with low VRAM/RAM should see improved performance.
  • The game is now available in Korean!
  • While at camp, you can now access and manage the inventories of companions who aren't in your active party.
  • Added a brand new fight in Ramazith’s Tower.
  • Orin’s outfit now drops as loot and is wearable by anyone. We also gave it a suitably disgusting description and name.

Those performance improvements as well will be quite welcome, especially on top of AMD FSR 2.2 that was added in a previous update.

For Linux Desktop and Steam Deck just make sure you're either on Proton Hotfix or the latest Proton Experimental, as they have the needed updates to ensure the game will actually launch.

You can buy Baldur's Gate 3 on Steam and GOG.

While I don't exactly regret the time I had with BG3 at launch, this really does remind me why I wait for the Final GOTY Enhanced edition of games. Glad to see they're working at it though, that ending... needs it.

Apparently Larian fiddled with the knobs to free willy.

That came just in time, as I am nearing the end of my first (and, for the near future, only) playthrough. Currently, GOG Galaxy has the clock at 211h, while the game itself says 175h, so seems I did reload quite a bit.

It starts feeling a bit tedious, but I've only a few companion quests to clear, so I guess I shall persevere. Given I never finished the originals way back when, that's really a testament to how much I like this installment.

That's the thought I had when Larian announced the (regular) boxed edition, which at €99 + shipping is incredible value considering that the digital game alone goes for €69.

Thats some impressively realistic physics. Now I feel compelled to create a character called Willy Wiggler

Beyond all expectations, and even though it indeed bears little resemblance to its namesakes, Baldur's Gate 3 not only managed to deliver but is actually GOTY material right out of the box. The third act though is very messy and cut down compared to what it obviously wanted (and deserved) to have been, so even though I love this game to pieces, I managed to unhook myself from it just before I entered the Lower City and at this point I'm patiently waiting for the definitive edition so I can properly dive right back in and enjoy this gem of a game in all its glory.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I love that Larian are already adding new story content like the Epilogue :P

I couldn't stop laughing! (Act your age, Pengling!)

Still, it makes a change from jiggle-physics being exclusive to female characters, doesn't it?

Seems a future game for Dick Trickle........ Might be a bit stiff to work him in there though....... But im sure I can make him fit right in.....

Poor Conan Exiles, people have forgotten how you can properly teabag your enemies with a wiggling willy!

I think I'm broken, I just can't get into the game. Instead I've been getting my Orpheus2 into a 486 so that I can play the old Ravenloft RPG. Ha, I plan on going through the Gold Box games. Of course part of it could be that I don't like 5e.

Nah, not every game must be for everyone. You are not alone, I have a close friend that also didn't like it, but to be fair, he has weird tastes, he doesn't like Witcher 3 or Dark Souls (Or any game that uses stamina to attack).

I also like going back to my old favs from time to time, since last Friday I've been playing Dragon Age Origins with an Arcane Warrior as a tank, good games never get old.

Haha, so true.

Friend of mine has recently asked me what I think the greatest CRPG ever made was. I said Ultima IV.

That dates me for several reasons, since no one calls them CRPGs anymore. And Ultima IV being the peak of RPGs when there are so many that just haven't played any of that glorious series... The only other that would be ranked better, would be Alternate Reality. Unfortunately only The City and The Dungeon were ever released for it, so it still sits under Ultima IV.

I remember playing Ultima IV on C64 and having my brother explain to me, that those bright-green blobs everywhere are NOT poison-swamps as I imagined, but trees and woods. Suddenly it was a whole new world. Good times

Ultima IV on the Atari 800XL was probably what defined most of my skill set as an adult...

We'd gotten a copy that must have been off the originals, as there were a few things that didn't work due to the copy protection...

1) you could hit something over and over again, and the most it'd do was say '... is lightly wounded.' This was fixed because there was a single track on the disk that was supposed to be unreadable. With our Happy drive, we took a disk with crappy games on it, drew over it with a pencil, then copied that single track from the bad disk over to the Ultima disk, and that fixed the 'lightly wounded' issue.
2) There was a sector that was blanked where Empath Abby and where Mondain's skull was. I ended up having to take some graph paper, figuring out what all the bits converted to tile types and drawing out an appropriate forest / plains / castle. (to find the castle location, I wrote the bit over the entire sector of the town and pressed the 'E'nter key until I found the right spot!). Haha, did all this when I was 11. Hex editors rule.
