I spent a ridiculous amount of time running around the small levels in Streets of Rogue, it was absolutely brilliant chaos and Streets of Rogue 2 going open-world is looking mighty fine in this first developer video.

What exactly is it? Streets of Rogue 2 gives you an open-world where practically anything is possible. You'll be able to play solo or with a few friends online to "embark on a wild adventure to take down a corrupt president – any way you want". In the video developer Matt Dabrowski goes over all the inspiration like AAA games from Rockstar, Bethseda and Ubisoft to survival crafting games like Minecraft and Valheim with a sprinkle of the freedom from Dwarf Fortress and Cataclysm Dark Days wrapped up in an interface that's welcoming and accessible so anyone can pick up. It's also more than 10,000 times bigger than a level from the first game with a fully destructible environment.

Developer Dabrowski notes in the video it's clearly still a work in progress, with their chat going over various bits of the game and plenty of footage we've not seen until now.

I absolutely love everything explained in the video, especially as another busy person, jumping into other open-world games is often too time-consuming and Streets of Rogue 2 looks like it will be fun and chaos from the moment you jump in. Exactly what I want to see and I've no doubt this will end up being one of 2024's most popular games — and one I'm certainly hyped to try.

As far as I know it's going to have Native Linux support like the first game.

Yup, mine as well. I will probably gobble it down, even if it turned out that it was nothing more than reheated SoR but bigger.

Not building... nooooo! I spend most of my time in Valheim just building castles! This will be top of my shopping list. This dev is amazing, how he does it all is incredible.

I still laugh my ass off whenever I think back to my gorilla walking into a bar and saying "I don't speak english" just before he bashes the place to bits with a sledge hammer. Good times.
