Following the stable Wine 9.0 release recently, we've just now had the Wine 9.1 development release kicking off another year and starting the road to Wine 10.0 since they do one stable Wine release each year.

The highlights of Wine 9.1 are:

  • A number of Input Method improvements.
  • Improved Diffie-Hellman key support.
  • Better Dvorak keyboard detection.
  • Various bug fixes.

42 bugs were noted as fixed with this release including issues solved for: Lego Racers, Lost Planet demo, Dead Rising, Unigine Heaven Benchmark, Emperor - Rise of the Middle Kingdom, Forza Horizon 4, MAMA and lots of miscellaneous fixes for Windows app behaviour.

Is there anything you're hoping to get fixed up in Wine soon?

Kinda hope this actually allows me to bind some keys now. For e.g. in hunt showdown I can't bind & { } ( right now.

​This wine version come with some interesting things case dead rising fixed bug related wmv

however in my case appear in black using wined3d implementation and with dxvk remains equal on infinite loading (sometimes work, sometimes dont)

but in good news other titles work in my vega 7 oc (4gb of vram force on bios)





in control is impressive, runs much better than i had geforce gtx 1050 2gb, thanks to much larger vram avalaible​

almost forget update with titles tested on vega 7 oc stay close, only need around 3 or 4 tests more
i think stay around 50 gameplay videos (native apps and non native apps)

The game still worked fine until Wine 9.0-rc3 recently, and I guess the regression snuck into Wine 9.0. You can see the Wine bug report here: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56119 (Looks like it was a specific regression in Wine's DirectDraw implementation? https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/commit/ee7d047dd55a4b2338eb2d64f85b7d984b39812f )

So, it wasn't broken for very long.

EDIT: I misread the issue originally and thought the user meant the issue was only present in 9.0-rc3, but they just reverted the commit on 9.0-rc3 (presumably the latest at the time, 30/12/2023). The issue notes this was broken since Wine 8.18, and the offending commit is 3 months old. So, it was broken for a few months. Not great, but not the end of the world either way (and with Wine-GE, which many use for gaming over vanilla Wine nowadays, you may have not have been impacted).

I switched to Linux nearly 20 years ago. This game was one of quite a few that I played in the first few years (when I found the time), and then I got a PS3 Slim and didn't get back to PC gaming till around the time that Steam came to Linux. So, yeah, the temporary regression didn't impact me 😉

I'm mostly interested in seeing the improvements made in 9.0 continue to mature. E.g. Wayland support and the new WoW64 support.

For WoW64 specifically I'm hoping we'll see new prefixes created faster and maybe taking up less space?

I'm also hoping for continued support and improvement for the old timers. DirectX 7 and backwards. The kind of games even modern Windows struggle to support.
