The next big free upgrade for Stardew Valley now has a release date in March and there's plenty to look forward to. Stardew Valley also just celebrated its 8th anniversary.

Confirmation of a March 19th release date comes from creator ConcernedApe (Eric Barone), who posted on X:

It's the 8th anniversary of Stardew Valley. Thank you for all the support over the years! Today I am announcing the PC Release date for the 1.6 update: --March 19th--. Console & Mobile will follow as soon as possible.

Not only that but in a follow up post Barone mentioned that Stardew Valley has also now sold over 30 million copies, which is simply incredible. Last time I remember seeing a sales count it was 20 million back in May 2022. The official press page has also been updated to note the 30 million milestone as of February 2024, with over 19 million of those being on PC.

What to expect from the 1.6 update? Barone previously teased in a post on X that it will have a major new festival, two new mini festivals, new late-game content to expand each of the skill areas, new items and crafting recipes, 100+ new lines of dialogue, winter outfits for villagers, 8 player support for multiplayer, a new farm type, new secrets and more.

Will you be jumping back in for the 1.6 update?

Stardew Valley has Native Linux support and it is Steam Deck Verified.

You can buy a copy from GOGHumble Store and Steam.

Can't wait!

I played a ton around Christmas, and then took a break to play other stuff (I like how Stardew Valley respects my time by not being real-time, unlike some other sim games that are often mentioned in the same sentence), so I'll be jumping in to check out the update once it lands, if not before then.

I don't plan, or want, to start a new file any time soon, though, since I only picked it up late last year and feel like I've barely scratched the surface!

I've bought it for myself and a relative, and have treated myself to some of the official merchandise, too (these little guys and this squishy feathered friend for my gaming plush collection, plus a pre-order for the cookbook ).
Wait a minute (tots up on fingers) . . . 20 million sales in the first 6 years, 10 million more in the last 2 . . . it's speeding up?!

It's a real proper long-tail seller.

Absolutely.

Does he earn at least a dollar per sale? Just wondering.

ConcernedApe? Yeah he is self-publishing now, so at least on PC - yes, he does!

That's what happens when you keep developing your already well-received game with genuine care & putting players first.
A friend of mine was itching to start a new co-op playthrough back in December, but we decided we didn't want to start one only for a big update to come out soon after, so we've been waiting for this announcement.
