An absolute indie gem released in 2022 is Dome Keeper from developer Bippinbits that has you mine underground for resources, while you also defend your dome above land from aliens. It's good fun and some big updates are on the way.

Teased in a Discord post the developer noted this upcoming update is "the biggest update dome has seen so far" with the focus on "increasing the replayability and run variety". They're going to be adding in "about as many new gadgets as there are already in the game and also make them much more powerful with supplements". That's only part of what's to come for the update.

Also they're porting the game from Godot Engine v3 to v4 that will bring various improvements, and help towards their other big plan to at some point add in full multiplayer support. However, before multiplayer comes, their focus on adding in more content for replayability has been their most common feedback which is why that's the initial focus.

My friend and I had an absolute blast playing this on the couch together when it first came out. It was awesome for one of us to be able to do the digging and then the other to take over dome defenses during the attack phase. SO MUCH FUN.

However ... when it first came out it, I don't think the balance was all that good. We quickly "beat" it just because we could pick the right upgrades and make the dome so incredibly powerful.

We got bored and quit, but then went back and tried it out again when they released the new character with the weird bouncy ball attack. That character was AWFUL ... like how did that even happen. Stopped playing for good then.

Maybe now with this we might give it another go!

Good game, but indeed for a rogue-like it runs out of content relatively quickly. Maybe this update will improve that.

Really looking forward to it!
I usually really get into for a while after each bigger update (especially on the Deck), but i'm especially looking forward to see if multiplayer will be as good as i imagine it to be ^^
