Released on May 3rd, Cozy Space Survivors is a cute survival roguelite in space, one for those of you who don't have a lot of free time. It's a little gem and the developer has posted up some post-release thoughts.

As a tiny niche game, the developer clearly didn't have high expectations for it. They only expected about 10% of the release-day wishlists to actually be converted into sales. Showing just how truly vital wishlisting is on Steam, the developer had 1696 wishlists at release and ended up selling 1608 units, with 58 refunds. Not bad for such a game with basically no real marketing.

Against how long it took to make though over 10 months, about 650 hours they said (outside of their main job), with a pretty fun breakdown of how they spent that time with the vast majority of that time directly in Godot. But a good few hours spread across Blender, sorting out audio, looking up tutorials and guides and so on.

Nice to see GamingOnLinux (that's us!) get a mention too:

I did not expect, that an article about my game on a Linux gaming website would be the biggest boost for my wishlists (before release). I also did not expect, that at/after release the spike would be the biggest ever. Makes no sense to me because the game did cost only $2 at release (May-03-2024) – I expected that people either buy immediately at such a low price or that they are not interested at all.

Also, quite funny how they tracked down someone that tried selling a key they gave them on G2A. That was a real gotcha moment. It's a reminder to game devs: Steam Curators do not need keys, you send the game directly to their curator page (like ours!).

You can buy Cozy Space Survivors on Steam. It's only £2.49 and there's a demo available. It has Native Linux support.
