The KINGDOM HEARTS games are finally coming to Steam in June

About damn time right? After being Epic Exclusive for multiple years, KINGDOM HEARTS is finally coming to Steam and there's a lot of it. This will make it so much easier to play on Steam Deck / Linux thanks to Proton.

In the official announcement they stated the release is for June 13th. It will include:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind DLC.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE (bundle that includes all the above compilations).

Quite a big list when you scroll to see what's inside each one. As KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX actually includes all this:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX - The game that started it all, remastered with HD visuals, improved controls, a remade soundtrack, and more. This is the game that introduced us to Sora - a brave lad with big feet and a bigger heart.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories - Set directly after the events of the first game, Sora, Donald and Goofy enter the mysterious Castle Oblivion, and stumble into an adventure that’s forgettable in the best possible way! …That’ll make more sense when you’ve played it.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD Remastered Cinematics) - This story focuses on Roxas, a new character with a special connection to Sora. The compilation features cinematics from the original game, enhanced with additional text and remastered in HD.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX - The second numbered game reunites Sora, Donald and Goofy in an epic adventure across some of the most memorable and unexpected Disney worlds in the series. Like Tron - Tron’s in here!
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX - Prequel time! This game turns back the clock to before Sora ever wielded a keyblade and shifts the focus onto three new characters: Terra, Ventus and Aqua. It’s an emotional adventure with a wildly entertaining battle system - there’s a reason it’s a real fan favorite.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Coded (HD Remastered Cinematics) - This hi-tech tale takes Data Sora into the digital world to seek an answer about a cryptic message. The compilation features enhanced cinematics only.

Then you have KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue that includes:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD - Sora and Riku take their Mark of Mastery exams to become true keyblade wielders. Things do not go as planned - if you thought your exams were stressful, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- - Made specifically for this collection, this episode gives you control of Aqua, following the dramatic ending of Birth by Sleep. It’s a short and sweet adventure that leads directly into KINGDOM HEARTS III.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover (movie) - An HD movie that goes back in the timeline even further than Birth by Sleep. It tells the story of the Foretellers - but who are they and what will they mean for the KINGDOM HEARTS series?

And then KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) to finish it up.

The one that's missing from this series to come to Steam appears to be Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, which is a  rhythm action game set after the Re Mind DLC. So hopefully that will eventually come too. There's no Steam pages actually live yet, and the trailer for the Steam release isn't live for another few hours:

FINALLY. I was twice very close to just give in and buying it on Epic because i thought it will stay Exclusive. Glad i waited.
When I first saw that thumbnail I thought it was a He-Man game....

They lost me when they started to release canon spinoffs in different platforms back in the day and the Epic exclusivity didn't appealed too much, but now... I might give it a try to understand the story.

Great to hear that it's finally being released to other stores as well. Unfortunately, Proton has opened so many doors that I don't really know which game I should dedicate my time to. YIKES

i do hope they fixed the cutscene issue where the game runs the movies in directx11 and the game in directx12 (or was it vice versa) and the launcher shell.

Good luck figuring out the playing order for those

Not for me (I hate RPGs), but good to see! I presume that this is the first step in Square-Enix's new multi-platform strategy, and that we won't be seeing them go Epic Games Store exclusive again?

The Epic version on Wine/Proton was rough. Launching the app opened a game selector that closed immediately, then failed to run the chosen game's exe directly. It never worked well, requiring manual workarounds that required people to fork the launch command and direct it to the specific game executable they wanted to play at the time. Hopefully Steam's release is better, but it's Square, so I expect this to be a complete money grab with very minimal effort on their part to integrate nicely within the Steam ecosystem, expecting us all to forget how hostile they were to the steam platform in the first place.

With this new Square Enix CEO, it sounds to me that maybe they'll be less hostile to Steam if they continue their plan to make games multiplatform.

Oh, nice. I saw there was a PC port to these games, but I didn't want to buy them on Epic, everything I've taken for free on Epic I've promptly forgotten about. I think out of the dozens of games I've nabbed for free on Epic, I've only played two more than once, GTA 5 and Among Us. Didn't want to drop money on a game I'd forget I have because of the platform I have it on.

So, I'm excited for the Steam release here. I might give these games a shot with the PC port.
