Need more retro shooting goodness in your life? How about a little more from Quake 1? The Immortal Lock is a brand new pack from modder ComfyByTheFire that's well worth a look.

Before getting into it though, just note they do say you need an up to date install of vkQuake (1.31.0+), which is a Vulkan Quake port based on QuakeSpasm.

Story: "You are Ranger, an operator of the UTJR stationed at a secret, multinational research facility in Finland. You are being deployed to investigate the disappearance of a survey team that went missing beyond the slipgate, cast into the farthest reaches of existence. Yet through the thin veil of reality, you find only a desolate plane of flesh and despair, and a dread voice that beckons your name."

As for what it includes: prepare for extremely challenging fights. The developer actually suggests you start on Easy mode. There will be plenty of "trick jumping, and a vast amount of large secret areas, but is difficulty scaled to accommodate everyone" and the map is "larger than an entire episode, if played in its entirety, and is best experienced in segments".

Go and check it out and let me know what you think.

This is awesome. I never got tired of play and test Doom or Quake maps and mods. And this looks SICK. Incredible.

That certainly had a few set pieces I haven't seen in a Quake mod before! Look very nice!

Also, nice choice of music used, which is "Nightmare (Ranger)" from "Arena Eternal" by Markie Music

If only I can trade my Steam, GOG, HB, itch.io libraries with time to play a fraction of them...

Quoteand the map is "larger than an entire episode, if played in its entirety, and is best experienced in segments".

Reminds me of the Doom map Foursite, which is a level that takes 3 hours to beat on average (longer than many episodes).
